“I don’t get it. We had all those meetings.” Meetings are a necessary part of work whether we like it or not, but not all meetings are created equal and frequent internal meetings can turn into lost productivity. So how do you keep your meetings in the “Goldilocks Zone” of productivity? If you’re still reading, you probably are expecting me to make a list on what I think are staples for effective meetings, but you’d be wrong! That’s because I don’t have that answer, your meeting attendees do. We’re so focused on getting external help and assistance that we always forget that we have a free consultant that can start giving us feedback within about 60 seconds or less: your own employees. If you have fostered a culture where you can take constructive feedback your employees will answer honestly and communicate their ideas to you, you’ll probably be very impressed with what you find. Listen to your people, they are your best consultants. Thank you to the New Yorker for the inspiration for this post and cartoon. #consulting #consultant #meeting #productivity #newyorker

Kill the MOJO to run effective #meetings? Bloated meetings are a curse and time guzzlers. Simple tricks to run effective meetings (& possibly free up your calendar) ✅ Clear meeting owner (MO). This person needs to ensure the meeting is actionable ✅ Remove joyful observers (JO). These people don't add (significant) value to meetings. Keep the meeting limited to the minimum number of people needed to close the decision ✅ Clear agenda w/ pre-read ✅ Participants to come prepared, if not give time to go over pre-read & discuss. ✅ End w/ clear notes (#decisions, discussions) & time-boxed action items (AIs) w/ owners #productivity #work #hack
