This might probably sound weird, but this is one of the most inspiring clips for me and here is why. Comedy is one of the highest forms of intelligence, there is no way you can create comedy in words without saying the truth, An even higher form of comedy is making people laugh without words. In this video, He knows what he is doing(confidence), he is doing less work(smart), knows the audience's impulse(knows his art and craft), had the courage to look dumb to make the act work(courage). This isn't a fluke. Think about this, now you know why people are laughing, know the technique, know it works, would you still do it? No?. Exactly! Anyone can speak with a lot of words. Letting silence speak, that's something else. PS: Either I love comedy too much or I just have weird tastes and sometimes I don't know which is which.

Humour is a powerful tool with numerous benefits, but it needs a special approach when it comes to the workplace. Most people view humour through the lens of comedy—stand-up routines, Netflix specials, and jokes told at the pub. This traditional view of humour focuses on being funny, telling jokes, and getting laughs. However, in a professional setting, this approach can often be counterproductive. Comedy is fantastic for entertainment, but if you want to elevate your people, supercharge performance, boost productivity, and maximise leader effectiveness, you don't need to "do" humour in the traditional sense. Need help coming up with a hook for your next branded video? This is a great option you should definitely try. Think of one of your favorite movies that doesn't have any conflict. You're probably having trouble, right? Because that would be freaking BORING 😂 So try adding some juicy conflict to the start of your next video. It's actually much easier than you may think. Every single one of your products or services solve one of your customers' pain points, right? Awesome. Their pain point = the conflict Start there. With that concept alone, you should be able to come up with several stories. And you can integrate: → Drama → Comedy → Suspense This is not a hook just to be a hook. It's authentic. It shows your audience that you understand them. And speaks directly to them. Which genre seems to grab your attention the most? Drama, comedy, or suspense? 👇

When I was part of an amateur stand up comedy circuit, I got to meet several pros on my field in Spain, and I would always ask for tips and hints. Surprisingly, almost none of the comedy-specific ones were useful to me, they felt like rationalisations of their own talent. One of the useful ones was a two step: First, neither keep a joke as it is that doesn't work just because you find it funny, nor remove a joke that lands just because you don't find it funny. Remove or fix the former, don't touch the latter. Second, rehearse until you don't find your jokes funny, if you have to hold your laughter, you haven't rehearsed enough. This is easy to translate to tech talks: - If the audience follows a segment with interest, keep it, if they don't, take it off or refine it. - Rehearse until you hate the sound of your own voice. If you find your own text stimulating, if you're not wishing for the sweet release of death, keep repeating. Every talk I have given that I'm proud of, I did that. I have given barely acceptable ones on subjects I'm well familiarised without following these principles. And I have never given a truly bad one without following this. And I record my talks, and ask people that I know will go hard on them to criticise them, people that dislike me. Oh, social cue that I found doing this: Ask people that dislike you for a favour, and you might make them into an acquaintance. Then I reflected on this, and I know that at least one individual have used this technique with me. IT WORKS. Even knowing that he did it on purpose, I can't bear myself to dislike him again.

Laughing till your stomach hurts is great. But when comedy hits your brain too? That’s magic!!! I attended Zakir Khan’s comedy show back in March, and along with jokes, I also took some lessons home that day. His comedy isn’t just about laughs. It’s about observation, storytelling, and the art of connecting with people. He takes the everyday stuff we usually overlook, holds it up to the light, and suddenly, you’re thinking, “Oh man, that’s me.” But here's what struck me: Humor isn’t just entertainment. It’s a bridge. A tool for making difficult truths land softly. For saying what needs to be said without sounding like a lecture. In our careers and personal brands, we spend so much time trying to be professional or polished that we forget one thing — people relate to people, not perfection. Sometimes, adding a dash of humor makes us more human. More real. And when we’re real, we’re relatable. That’s when we stop speaking at people and start speaking to them. So whether you're in a meeting, writing a post, or building your brand — don’t underestimate the power of a well-timed joke or a self-deprecating story. Because nothing builds trust faster than a good laugh and a genuine smile. Remember: Professionalism doesn’t mean perfection — it means connection. And humor? That’s your shortcut to it.

David Letterman was genius at a lot of comedy. One of his best gags was to randomly re-say the punchline of a bombed-joke from the monologue during a lull or dull moment. It jogged the audience’s memory and the new humor was in how poorly the initial joke was the first time. Even leftovers can be better the day-after. Ever send an email back & forth to a buddy? I mean, several years in between sends? A friend and i had the sad occasion to send this note back and forth a couple times between up several years ago as we were both laid-off at different times. As the original author, I’m biased in saying it has a few nuggets of wisdom. And maybe a bombed joke or two. There are people in your life - maybe you - who need to hear this (or something like it) today, tomorrow or next year or whenever a job isn’t there anymore. "Dear friend, Enjoy the time you do have off. Its a rare opportunity. Don't get me wrong: Work like the dickens to get a job; but enjoy the time to have lunch with <your kids>, lounge by the pool one afternoon... you know - due the stuff on a Wednesday afternoon that you normally couldn't. Read.... read about jobs, finance, read books, read the journal. read up on companies... etc. Funny thing about reading... you can do that out by the pool"! "And most importantly, 1) Its not a reflection on you. You were in a bad situation. You had to get out... This is a blessing. 2) give <your spouse> an extra hug or two each day. She may not let on... but she's scared -- its a shock, and a change. Reassure her that everything is going to be fine. You guys are set-up to withstand this rainstorm, and when the sun shines again, you could be looking at starting a job while being paid for the last one. If she's like <my spouse>, she's trying to be a rock... but that's not always easy. And she'll appreciate it if you're aware of her feelings underneath the solid exterior".

When we speak up, especially if it is with something that is tricky, it often doesn't go as we want it to. If we are to get better at speaking up in a way that can be heard, we have to practice - and that means things won't always go as you'd like (and of course, this doesn't negate the vital role of listening up and how those in positions of power can show up in ways that either help you or silence you - and you may have little control over that). I've had some classic fails that I've learnt from and I'm sure there are more such 'opportunities' in store for me! However, I did find some of its advice thought-provoking and challenging - what do you think? 1. Get comfortable with silence.
