The Presidential Solar Scheme has kicked off with installation at 400 houses underway in Harare where solar panels are being laid on rooftops to generate power to be sold to ZESA Holdings to then feed into the national grid. The initiative involves renting and installing solar panels on the rooftops of houses in Harare, starting with the pilot project in Glen View. The homeowners will receive a token of appreciation. The solar energy generated by these panels will be sold to Zesa for integration into the national grid. In return, Zesa agreed in principle to suspend load-shedding in the areas participating in the scheme. The pilot project is being rolled out by the Zimbabwe Solar Energy Company (ZISEC), a subsidiary of Prevail Group International (PGI), in Ward 30, Glen View suburb. Standard contractual arrangements have been agreed upon that allow ZISEC to recoup its money over the life of the scheme and make a fair profit if they are efficient. Two new solar parks in Andalucia are the latest additions. Philippines’ Negros Occidental To Install Solar Panels Across Seven Capitol Facilities The provincial government of Negros Occidental plans to install a total of 1,270 kilowatts (KW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across seven main facilities of the Capitol this year. Data released by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Tuesday indicated that switching to solar power could save the province between 132,080 and 158,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) monthly. “We aim to put the project out for bid by the third quarter,” Lacson stated during an interview held in conjunction with the Provincial Renewable Energy Week from May 20 to 24. Solar power continues its record-breaking streak as the fastest-growing electricity source globally. Energy research firm Ember projects that solar will grow at least 32% in 2024 - faster than the 26% annual growth needed to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Around the globe, major shifts are altering the solar landscape. Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. Announces 24.8% TOPCon Solar Module Efficiency Leading Chinese solar PV manufacturer JinkoSolar has launched the world’s ‘most powerful’ modules with up to 670 W and 495W output, and a power conversion efficiency of up to 24.8%. This latest iteration of these TOPCon modules from its portfolio is named Tiger Neo 3.0. The new products launched in the Tiger Neo 3.0 portfolio comprise what the manufacturer claims are the solar industry’s 1st ever 495 W residential modules called Neo DG, while the Neo Utility panels can reach up to 670 W output. The bifacial factor for the bifacial version is up to 85%, it claims. Solar Steel Secures Major Supply Agreement for 118MW Solar Tracker Installation in Chile, Significantly Advancing Clean Energy Transition Solar Steel, a prominent supplier of solar trackers and fixed structures for the PV solar sector, is excited to announce a significant supply agreement for 118 megawatts (MW) of solar trackers destined for a photovoltaic project in Chile.
