Modern surgical lighting usually consists of a sizable central light source that can be adjusted manually, along with additional light sources that flank it to provide more illumination for the operating region. Additionally, more people are aware that improving surgical lighting brightness alone won't always translate into higher-quality illumination since glare from a light source that is too intense will lessen the contrast between anatomical structures. But there are still a lot of unanswered questions that need to be taken into account. These include the safety of the OR personnel and survivors, as well as time efficiency, sterility, decontamination, and cost.
