Growing Investments in Evaluation: 11th AfrEA Evaluation Conference in Kigali, Rwanda I attended the recent Evaluation conference in Kigali, Rwanda, organized by the Africa Evaluation Association (AfREA). It was an enriching and enlightening experience that provided profound insights into the evolving landscape of evaluation practices across Africa. It was an opportunity to engage with diverse experts and practitioners, fostering a deeper understanding of innovative approaches, persistent challenges, and promising opportunities within the realm of evaluation on the continent. One of the key takeaways from the conference was the recognition of the increasing investment in evaluation initiatives across Africa. Governments, international organizations, and NGOs increasingly prioritize evaluation as a crucial component of evidence-based decision-making processes. This growing commitment reflects a broader acknowledgment of the importance of rigorous evaluation in enhancing accountability, improving program effectiveness, and ultimately driving sustainable development outcomes. Overall, my participation in the Evaluation conference in Kigali was informative and inspiring, reaffirming my dedication to contributing to the advancement of monitoring and evaluation practices. #AfricaEvaluationAssociation #EvaluationInAfrica #MonitoringAndEvaluation

Excited to share insights from my presentation at the 11th African Evaluation Association in Kigali, Rwanda this March. My presentation, titled "Cyclone Idai's Evaluation Odyssey:Technology and Participatory Approaches Intersect," delves into a critical shift in evaluation methodologies amidst evolving contexts. In the wake of Cyclone Idai, conventional #evaluationmethods proved insufficient, prompting a paradigm shift towards #innovativemethodologies. This presentation underscores the pressing need for evaluators to adapt and refine their approaches, particularly in disaster contexts. By merging technology and participatory approaches, we're navigating new avenues for effective evaluation. This fusion not only enhances the accuracy and depth of our assessments but also fosters greater community engagement and empowerment. I'm passionate about advancing evaluation practices to better serve communities in times of crisis. Let's continue exploring these intersections for impactful and meaningful evaluation outcomes. #Evaluation #Technology #Participation #DisasterResponse

How can we unlock the power of the private sector in Kenya to drive sustainable development? This was the question on my mind during a very productive strategy session with USAID Kenya & East Africa's Private Sector Solutions Team. At this working session we agreed on a shared vision to tackle key national and East Africa regional challenges—ranging from job creation, food systems, energy, climate resilience to inclusive economic growth. Working in collaboration with the broader Office of Economic Growth and Integration, we strategized on layering investments and synergized on deploying innovative new tools to support and engage the private sector in transformative ways. Together, we mapped out ways to leverage networks in Eastern Africa and align external financing to fuel sustainable, scalable growth for local businesses. This collective effort marks a significant step forward in creating impactful solutions through strategic private sector partnerships from 2025 and beyond. Exciting days ahead! 🌱💼 #SustainableDevelopment #PrivateSectorEngagement #USAID

Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at Internews
9moHi Dr. Josephine. This is great and refreshing. Few years a go, monitoring and evaluation sounded like a donor driven thing, hence left to NGOs who were recipients of donor funds. In some worst case scenario, M&E Officers were perceived as policemen. But now things are changing very quickly. There is a growing understanding to many stakeholders and hence increasing demand for more investment. Thank you for this feedback.
