A very pertinent article by ICEF Monitor highlights the emergence of new destination markets such as Thailand in the realm of international education. As someone who hails from humble backgrounds in Laos, where higher education has historically lacked global recognition, my own journey to study in Bangkok resonates deeply with the points raised in the article. Quality education, affordability, and the rich cultural experience are indeed significant attractions for students seeking overseas study opportunities. However, I'd like to further emphasize the role of partnerships with internationally acclaimed institutes, which greatly enhance the appeal and credibility of educational offerings in Thailand. Here are a few examples: - Degree Certification and Joint Degrees within Thailand: Dusit Thani College exemplifies this approach with programs like their BBA in Hotel and Resort Management, certified by the prestigious EHL, and their joint degree with Le Cordon Bleu for BA in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management.Double Degree Programs: Institutions like Rangsit University International College have pioneered successful double degree programs. These initiatives typically involve students spending three years at their Thai campus and concluding their bachelor's degree with partner schools abroad. Examples include partnerships with De Montfort University, University of the West of England, and the University of Wollongong to name a few. Such collaborations not only enrich the educational experience but also provide students with globally recognized qualifications, enhancing their employability on the international stage. As for the educators' side, the benefits are wide, improving brand visibility, expanding recruitment efforts without having to invest in a campus abroad and alleviating pressure on the application teams, thanks to pre-qualified students who have gone through an approved curriculum beforehand. In conclusion, the rise of Thailand as a destination market for education is not merely due to its inherent appeal but also owing much to the strategic partnerships forged with esteemed institutions worldwide. As Thailand continues to solidify its position as a hub for quality education, these partnerships will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping its trajectory on the global stage, especially considering the current policy changes in many top study destinations. #ICEF South East Asia presents a prime opportunity for international institutes to connect with Thai universities and vice-versa, fostering further collaboration and elevating Thailand's position in the global education landscape. #internationaleducation #thailand #icefmonitor

Major Spike in Chinese Students Heading to Malaysia for Education! 🇲🇾 International student mobility is on the rise, and according to a recent article by The PIE News, Malaysia is experiencing a significant increase in Chinese students seeking higher education and K-12 opportunities. According to Education Malaysia, there was a massive spike in students from East Asia in 2023, with a total of 29,195 applications received last year, compared to 23,818 the year before. A staggering 26,627 of them were from China, representing a noticeable increase on 2022 level, when there were 21,975 students from China studying in Malaysia. Malaysia has become an attractive option for many Asian families and students, partly due to its relatively lower cost of living compared to other Asian countries such as Singapore, coupled with its high level of English proficiency. The Rising Importance of Singapore in International Student Mobility Recent findings by ICEF highlight a growing trend of international students exploring alternative destinations beyond the traditional choices of the UK, Australia, and Canada. Asia, particularly Singapore, is emerging as a key player in this shift. The political and social stability, presence of global headquarters and regional offices, strong innovation ecosystem, and unparalleled global connectivity make Singapore an attractive destination for serious students seeking true educational engagement. However, this growing interest in Singapore comes with increased scrutiny. PEIs are now faced with competition not just within their private education sector but also against the seven Singapore government universities, five polytechnics, and various government-linked specialized institutions. Despite the lack of education funding from the Ministry of Education to the private education sector, PEIs must strive toward better quality standards and authentic, impactful learning outcomes. The statistics are telling: Only 20 PEIs hold Edutrust Provisional Certification, while about 100 have maintained the prestigious 4-year Edutrust Certification over several years, out of an average of 300 PEIs since 2010. To remain competitive and attract high-quality international students, PEIs must invest in educational technology, enhance their academic teams, and commit to continuous improvement. This investment not only helps in gaining Edutrust certification but also meets the rising demands for quality education from international university partnerships. The days of recruiting for the sake of merely issuing qualifications are numbered. If PEIs continue with this business model, they will attract poor-quality students, leading to operational challenges, academic plagiarism issues, and student conduct and ethical concerns. These issues will inevitably invite deeper regulatory governance. As a strategic advisor and consultant for PEIs, I strongly advocate for embracing these changes. Serious institutions should leverage the Edutrust certification as a benchmark to elevate their educational offerings, ensuring they attract and retain the best students. The future of international student mobility is bright for those willing to innovate and uphold the highest standards of educational excellence. #Education #StudentMobility #Singapore #Edutrust #HigherEducation #InternationalStudents #EducationConsulting #InnovationInEducation #EdTech https://lnkd.in/giw5SZUk

Is Singapore the new hot-spot for Chinese students studying overseas? In a recent trip to Singapore, one of Venture’s team members visited 10 leading universities on a delegation from China, from the globally ranked National University of Singapore (NUS) to prestigious private institutions like Singapore Management University (SMU). What she discovered was an education system that is quickly becoming a magnet for Chinese students. So, what makes Singapore such an appealing study abroad destination for Chinese youth? For starters, the country offers a winning combination of safety, cultural affinity, and educational excellence. As a highly livable, multicultural city-state, Singapore provides a secure environment that has become increasingly attractive amidst geopolitical tensions elsewhere. The proximity to China, shared Mandarin language, and similar cultural norms also help Chinese students transition smoothly. But perhaps the biggest draw is Singapore's flexible, expedited education pathways. The pre-university program is a key part of what makes Singapore's education so appealing for Chinese students. After finishing middle school in China, students often face a high-stakes decision between academic and vocational high school tracks. Many are now opting to bypass this dilemma by studying in Singapore instead. Upon completing 1-2 year pre-university program, including options like Junior Colleges (JC), Institute of Technical Education(ITE), Private Education Institutes (PEI), Polytechnic, students can then transition seamlessly into 2-3 year bachelor's degree programs, earning a globally-recognized bachelor’s degree from top UK or Australian institutions which partner with Singaporean universities in a condensed timeframe. And Chinese families love efficient and flexible. The influx of Chinese students in Singapore has been rapidly growing, comprising a substantial portion of international student population. In 2023, Singapore hosted a total of 79,300 foreign students, a 25% increase from 2022, driven by a nearly 70% rise in Chinese students. Rose Gao, CEO of a study abroad agency in Zhengzhou, China, who also joined this tour, told our team member: “Each year, we send around 200 students to study overseas, most of them considering only US, UK, Australia and Canada, but for the past year, we got increasing amount of inquiries from parents about Singapore, so I want to learn more." Singapore's unique educational advantages, coupled with its economic dynamism, make it a rising star in the global study abroad landscape. With job opportunities and pathways to permanent residency after graduation, it's easy to see why Singapore is emerging as a premier destination for young Chinese students. #pathways

Top Study Destinations Beyond the Big Four in 2024 • While the US, UK, Canada, and Australia remain dominant in international education, attracting over half the world's students, alternative destinations are experiencing significant growth. • Germany, with over 400,000 expected international students in 2024/25, is a leading example, attracting a large cohort of Indian and Chinese students despite challenges like visa processing and accommodation. • France, the sixth most popular host country globally, saw a 4.5% increase in international students in 2023/24 and is actively promoting itself, aiming to attract 30,000 Indian students by 2030. • South Korea, driven by its cultural influence and technological advancements, hosts over 205,000 international students and aims for 300,000 by 2027, with a significant rise in American students. • Japan, with a target of 400,000 international students by 2033, is experiencing growth despite concerns about job prospects and the potential limitations of English-taught programs. • Other notable destinations include China, which hosts a substantial number of international students despite accounting for less than 1% of its total enrollment, and New Zealand, which is experiencing a strong rebound in international student numbers post-pandemic. • Malaysia and Ireland are also emerging as significant destinations, with Malaysia focusing on attracting students from East Asia and Ireland aiming to increase its international student population by 10% by 2030, while Turkey and Italy also show significant growth despite some challenges. 10moSuper interesting, particularly for me personally right now. My son is nearly 17 and starting to think about what he's going to do after A levels. He's looking at studying overseas (NOT at a university in the UK) & going to a university in Asia is not outside the realm of possibility!
