Biometric authentication is set to revolutionize air travel by boosting productivity and enhancing passenger experience. According to Delta’s managing director of airport experience, Greg Forbes, facial recognition technology can shave off more than a minute from the bag drop process, reducing it to just 30 seconds. Furthermore, it can also reduce the security interaction time from 25 seconds to around 10 seconds. This not only makes the passenger experience smoother but also saves airlines costs. #FacialRecognition coming to an airport ( hotel? ) near you. #Biometrics are transforming the way we travel. The technology, which identifies travelers using unique physical traits like fingerprints and faces, is becoming more common at airports in the United States. As a result, time-consuming rituals that once required repeated ID checks — such as bag dropping, security screening and boarding — are getting easier and faster. Some experts believe that this will be the year that biometric use, primarily facial recognition, becomes standard at many airports. The technology offers several advantages: enhanced security, quicker processing of passengers and a more convenient airport experience. And remember the big news of end of Jan where: Amadeus Acquired Portugese Biometrics Company Vision-Box for $348 Million. ⬅️ I personally enjoyed a ridiculously streamlined experience upon arrival in Lisbon airport a few weeks back from an international flight due to the excellent Vision-Box deployment. ✅ Great read In today’s The New York Times newsletter, explaining how biometrics are already altering many travelers’ #airport experiences, and how critics are raising some concerns which the tech community is working hard to address. —— ➡️ Find out how the #airline, #travel and #hospitality - innovation focused, Growth Advisors International Network - GAIN industry-leading advisors such as, Chris Tomseth, can build your travel or airline, brand’s next gen passenger and staff-facing strategies today. https://lnkd.in/dCS8NKtD

Experts believe the future of air travel is one where facial recognition will be used throughout the entire airport journey: bag drop, boarding, even entering lounges and purchasing items at retail stores within the airport. It may be so streamlined that security checkpoints could be eliminated, replaced instead by security “tunnels” that passengers walk through and have their identity confirmed simultaneously. According to a recent report by SITA, in which 292 airlines and 382 airports around the world were surveyed, 70 percent of global airlines are expected to use some sort of biometric identification by 2026 and 90 percent of airports are currently investing in the technology. But critics have expressed that the technology’s convenience fails to outweigh a high potential for abuse — from unfettered surveillance to unintended effects like perpetuating racial and gender discrimination. #airport #biometrics #biometricsecurity #bordercontrol #travelandtourism #impacts William Raillant-Clark Eric Pateman, MBA, FRCGS Jon Howell ✈ Mark Hill Alex Dichter Mostafa Farrag Grishma Bhandari Alem Desta Kassahun Samson Arega Bekele (BA, MSc) Edgard Lacle Zeynep K. Have you used this yet? 🤖✈️ I remember the first time I encountered this while going through customs. Wild. Touchless ID tech is revolutionizing airport security - with United Airlines and Delta Air Lines leading the charge, us passengers can now breeze through checkpoints with just a scan of our faces. It's definitely a game-changer for frequent flyers and could pave the way for even more innovations in travel technology... also, using biometric ID tech is part of a bigger trend toward making transportation more digital and automated. It's the future of how we move stuff around. But, as we learn to embrace these advancements, we must also stay vigilant about privacy concerns and ensure that security measures remain effective and efficient. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is testing self-service screening options at select airports and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has emphasized limited image retention for testing purposes only. What do you think? Love it or hate it? 🤔 https://lnkd.in/gfA4BUSt
At a growing list of airports, TSA PreCheck travelers no longer have to show physical IDs or boarding passes
