Working in regional areas can be better for your career than the city, argues Dane Mitchell, MD and Optimum Allied Health. In a video on LinkedIn he outlines three reasons why an appointment outside of the city can fast-track careers for health professionals, including more opportunity, varied caseloads and better quality of life. "Living, working and raising your family in the country is as good as it gets," he says. Would you agree? Watch his video and share your thoughts on the topic in the comments.

A CV landed on my desk. It wasn’t perfect. There were gaps. They had taken time off to raise their children. They shuffled from job to job. They didn’t have direct care experience. But something caught my eye. In those gaps, I saw dedication. In those job changes, I saw adaptability. In their life, I saw experience. Life experience. They knew how to care- because they had done it for their own family. They knew how to listen – because they had been there for their friends. They knew how to adapt – because life had thrown them curveballs. At Lotus homecare, we see beyond the CV. We see the person. And we knew that a true caregiver is more than just a job. It’s being there when a client is upset, knowing how to comfort them. It’s understanding that independence sometimes means doing it together. It’s recognising that loneliness is often eased by popping on the kettle and having a good chat. Bullet points on the CV can’t measure compassion, empathy, or resilience. They can’t capture the strength it takes to put others first. The best caregivers aren’t made in classrooms – they are made through life. That’s why they are perfect for this role.

It's early days for this version, but it looks like working in your Cluster has an impact on how you feel about your job. Last week I made a couple of adjustments to the pre-Cluster quiz for adults to complete. The aim was to find an instrument which measured how satisfied people were with their jobs, and I thought I would need some complex multi-question survey, but it turns out that most of the literature just suggests asking people if they are satisfied with their job. We also ask people about the job they're currently working in, which we can then compare with their Cluster results. Before, we focused on asking them about their path to their current role, so it wasn't possible to determine if their found their work satisfying or not. It's only been live for a week, and these are the results we have so far. I honestly thought it would be much closer, because there's just so much that goes into whether or not we find our work satisfying. The results so far indicate that working in your Cluster increases the likelihood of finding satisfying work, and that working outside your Cluster means you are more likely to be dissatisfied with your work. Lots more work to do here, but I'm excited to see what the results look like in a few months time. #CareerClusters

As I prepare to re-enter the job market, I’ve taken time to reflect on a recent 6-month gap in my resume. While unconventional, this period has provided some of the most meaningful experiences that have enhanced my skills and growth. Here are a few highlights from that time: 🇮🇹 Emotional Support: Assisted a woman through the difficult passing of her beloved pet, offering empathy, emotional support, and guiding her to seek help, reminding me of the power of words and holding space for others. 🇮🇪 Empowering Others: Helped an elderly person navigate complex home assistance documents, empowering her to access the support she needed. This underscored the impact of shared knowledge and clear communication. 🇯🇵 Self-Advocacy: Managed my way through a foreign healthcare system to book and attend a women's health appointment, a reminder of the importance of self-advocacy and persistence in unfamiliar environments. These experiences, combined with consistent practice in problem-solving, crisis management, budgeting, and adapting to different cultures and languages, have pushed me beyond my comfort zone and provided invaluable growth. I’m excited to apply this learning to my professional career moving forward!

It’s that time of year. You may have recently graduated and/or just come back from some summer travel. Now you are evaluating the next steps in your life. What kind of work do you want to do? How do you go about getting it? Maybe you go back to school instead? Lots of options and how do you know what is the right one. Where the heck do you even start? Where you are at is SO understandable. Knowing which way to turn next can be very difficult and scary. You are not alone in this. As a reminder: I work 1:1 with young adults (ages 18-34). I support them in identifying their career direction and guide them through the job search/networking process into landing the job that will launch their career. We are in the final days of collecting your views about what is missing from the support landscape in mid to later career, before we start to put some ideas together to share with the world. If you are in the second half of your career & have yet to complete our survey please do so by the end of March. It does take about 20 minutes or so, but we've had heaps of feedback that the process itself is thought-provoking and helpful. https://lnkd.in/gMJtx6e2
