Automotive lightweighting is a major trend in the new energy vehicle industry. This is mainly because lightweighting can improve the range of new energy vehicles, reduce energy consumption, and help lower battery costs. Since the battery packs of new energy vehicles are relatively heavy, lightweighting is particularly important for these vehicles. Lightweighting technology can reduce the weight of components, improve driving range, and reduce component wear while meeting vehicle safety requirements. For example, according to the announcement by China Jushi, reducing the weight of the entire vehicle by 10% can improve fuel efficiency by 6%-8%; for every 100 kg reduction in vehicle weight, fuel consumption per 100 km can be reduced by 0.3-0.6 liters; and reducing vehicle weight by 1% can lower fuel consumption by 0.7%. Additionally, the application of lightweight technology can shorten braking distances, increase kinetic energy savings, improve acceleration performance, enhance maximum speed, and reduce noise and vibration. Lightweighting also helps control the cost of new energy vehicles. This is the Introduction speech at Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (VDV) Mobility Move in front of 1500 congressists and 90 exhibitors in Berlin. In a particular moment when the Federal subventions are suddenly drastically reduced and making 2030 conversion targets at stake. Examples show the efforts from Munich (bus depot conversion = 200 M€), or Hamburger Hochbahn with an estimated comprehensive conversion cost of 1 Md € by 2030. These subventions are not wasted, they are feeding the economy and industry. Last week, we attended the FEBIAC Automotive eMotion Summit. We saw how different OEM’s are preparing for an electric as well as connected future for mobility. Mobility solutions can make cities smarter, drivers happier and citizens safer. We equally heard interesting political debates on the future of mobility, electrification and tax policy. Our founding partner, Peter De Keyzer, provided concluding remarks. Here are his key insights: - 📈 Mobility is a vital economic sector, driving prosperity and innovation, yet facing significant challenges in taxation and regulations. - 👥 Mobility plays a pivotal role in every citizen's life - with diverse solutions tailored to individual needs. - 📊 Mobility affects every aspect of society, with the potential to enhance safety, efficiency, and accessibility through intelligent use of data. - 🌱 Electric mobility is essential in fighting climate change and achieving a reduction in CO2 emissions.
