Journal of Patient Experience’s Post

How Can Patient Stories Reshape Healthcare and Reduce Burnout? The foundation of exceptional healthcare lies in trust and communication. This study in the Journal of Patient Experience highlights how a seemingly small gesture—a nurse introducing themselves—can build trust and create a positive first impression. By analyzing feedback from thousands of patients across Saudi Arabia, the study found that nurses who consistently introduced themselves saw higher satisfaction scores. With cultural nuances playing a large role, this research underscores the need for nurses to be trained in effective communication that aligns with patient expectations. I love this. Stories are what make narrative medicine. And narrative medicine is needed to re-establish trust.

We approach the design of innovative health experiences through the lens of those who are at the centre. Stories are often the p=most powerful tools to build empathy and alignment.

Rather than referring to patient with their Room or bed or some number, a name and a little background story like the one in this report - is a great start towards humanising the patient. Good work in making this more practical with responses to four simple questions.

I love this concept. The power of a story told in one's own words is immeasurable.
