How to develop independent learners. Sharing learning goals ensures students know what they are aiming for and provides means of measuring and reflecting on their progress. 1. Initially, the teacher can set the goals for the class, better yet they can set personalised goals for students knowing the strengths and areas for development. 2. At a higher level the teacher will discuss development and outcomes with the students and elicit individual goals from each of them. This can aid with motivation as personally set goals will hold students to a higher account. 3. Finally, students set their own goals and start to consider how they can best achieve them. Goals can be set at different points and have different durations. To engage students at the start of a topic discuss what personal goals they would like to achieve by the end. This can help tailor lessons to engage and motivate for better progress. Each lesson will have goals too, make these appropriate for the learners. As Vygotsky discusses keeping students in the "zone of proximal development" is key for best progress. We don't have to always have substantive (knowledge based) goals, we can set disciplinary (skills based) goals that can be transferred. #goals #learning #education #teaching #independent #development #metacognition #school #students

It is widely believed that good teaching is talent that some have and others don't. But this belief is a myth! Teaching is a skill and, like any skill, it requires effective training and practice. Effective teaching requires the following: 1. Breaking complex skills down into components 2. Using Direct Instruction to teach each component 3. Designing focused practice opportunities for each component 4. Measuring and analyzing learning 5. Troubleshooting barriers to learning 6. Determining when fluency (mastery) has been achieved Our team is certified to effectively teach in this manner, which is why our entire teaching team consistently produces the same remarkable outcomes with every student enrolled. We don't depend on a "talented" team. We produce a highly competent team through explicit training in the elements of effective instruction. www.fitlearningonline.com #learning, #coach, #practice, #backtoschool, #parenting, #kids, #online, #madetomeasure, #science, #transformation, #revolution, #thrive, #progress, #expert, #confidence, #onlinelearning, #math, #reading, #logic, #empower, #smallbusiness, #womanownedbusiness, #values, #team, #accountability, #fun, #joy
