So what makes a social media post successful? After 5 years of having it as part of my professional life, I still am not sure. Is it the content? Is it the picture? Is it the hashtags? Is it the number of people tagged and the size of their networks? Is it the number of your followers? Is it the day/time of the post? Is it the algorithm? Is it the shoes? 👟🏀😉 It is some ever-changing combination of all of the above, maybe except the shoes, which is simply impossible to accurately predict in advance. As we approach 1 week since Liza Shliakhova’s wildly successful post for the University of Luxembourg Alumni Network, a post that more than doubled all previous engagement metrics, we are asking ourselves how it happened. Was it only because we decided to post in the morning instead of the afternoon? We’ll find out today, when this week’s post goes up, in the morning. Or more likely, we won’t. 😩

This shared model allows them to split overheads, leverage bulk purchasing, and ensure the space is fully utilised—all while reducing costs. Genius! If you are a coffee lover and haven’t visited this place, then you are missing out. Honestly, I haven’t seen any influencer or travel blogger talk about it either even though every coffee lover should visit it once. When you think of Istanbul, coffee might not be the first thing that comes to mind but it has one of the most fascinating experiences at the Espresso Lab. Founded by Esat Kocadag, it has changed the coffee culture in Istanbul, making it one of the most modern and impressive coffee scenes I've ever seen. Born out of Istanbul, Espresso Lab has grown into one of Europe’s biggest chains, setting a new standard for coffee culture. It is a massive 60,000 sq ft coffee experience center, one of the largest in Europe. → It isn’t just about serving coffee but an immersive experience. From a full-scale roastery to interactive coffee dispensers, there's so much to explore. → They offer workshops where you can learn how to brew coffee using machines and each participant gets hands-on experience with individual coffee machines. → What’s even more impressive is the history behind the building. They’ve turned Istanbul's first cardboard factory into a coffee hub, blending the old with the new. Darnish Singh Kalra and I took multiple subways and trains to get to Espresso Lab even though it is between 5-6 universities. Yesterday, we held our annual staff hui. It's an important day for us here at the Institute of Directors in New Zealand as we bring all our people together under one roof to learn, connect and share their knowledge. We spent the day focusing on #creativity and #innovation to create meaningful change, and how we can inject more of that good stuff into the DNA of the IoD. It's a big job getting a whole company together for the day, but now more than ever connecting people is so important, and we think it's well worth the investment. We usually spend our time creating memorable experiences for our members and customers, but yesterday it was our staff's turn to get treated to some IoD pearls of wisdom and manaakitanga. Thank you to our amazing speakers David Wilks for inspiring us, and our expert member panel Tui Te Hau, Suse Reynolds and Murray Sherwin for your generosity of time and wisdom. It's a tough time in business these days, so I want to give a shout out to the awesome local companies that helped us deliver an excellent day. If you want to do something special for your team, I highly recommend any of these businesses to see you right. Worser Bay Boating Club - an awesome venue with beautiful outlook over the moody Wellington harbour. It's one of the best venues I've used in Wellington. Spoonful Catering - very yummy food and they expertly catered to everyone's needs and kept us all nourished and caffienated. Wētā Workshop Ltd who delivered a fantastic workshop where we got to get super creative and make our own special effects (blood splatter or bullet wounds anyone?) Double Vision Brewing and especially Dustyn for making our people feel so welcome, and making the best toasted sandwiches I'd ever eaten. My takeaways: 🎨 Everybody is creative. Not just artists. 💹 There is always tension between innovation, creativity and commercial reality. You have to lean in to it. 💜 People are at the heart of it. If you haven't got the right people (attitude, passion, drive) you won't get where you want to go no matter how creative you are. 🏹 Innovation doesn't have to be massive. Not too long ago, they exited the market, and now, just a few months later, they're back with a vengeance. The Chinese F&B chains are not for the faint-hearted. With war chests filled from their successes in the domestic market, these giants are now setting their sights on the international stage. CHAGEE Singapore, though Singapore wasn't their first choice for expansion into the Asia-Pacific region, is now rapidly growing, leveraging a different strategy from their peer, LUCKIN COFFEE (SGP) PTE LTD. While CHAGEE is surpassing 4,500 units and on track to hit 5,000 soon, Luckin Coffee has just crossed a staggering 20,000 outlets. These numbers are astonishing and demonstrate the aggressive pace at which these brands are expanding.
