My morning read… the famous Navy SEAL training program is based on the experiences and observations of Draper Kauffman while serving as a ambulance driver on the Maginot Line in 1940. Kauffman saw the brotherly team that was the Corps Franc. They were an elite team of volunteers who infiltrated behind enemy lines and disrupted operations. They worked in stealth. Taking that observation Kauffman started a training method that became the SEALs. Importantly Navy SEALS train in teams. The dreaded Log exercise, carrying and moving a 250lb log for 90 minutes, depends on team members being so attuned to each other that when one falters, the team automatically adjusts to carry the load. Think about that. If someone on the team falters everyone else is so completely focussed on the task that they sense that drop and without talking adjust. In our teams do we know each other so well and trust each other so much that when someone falters we simply support in the moment? Debriefing can happen later but in the moment the team adjusts to ensure the job gets done. The foundation is creating cohesion through shared experiences.

A simple timeless lesson from Navy SEALs training - “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” If you accomplish the first task of the day well, then the rest of the day has a better chance of going well. Do the little things right!

Here's a reminder about the power of language and how it impacts you. #CostelloGroup #Motivational #Advice
Backstory: In 2019 I was training for a 100 mile race. During my training runs I couldn’t break past 38 miles. I didn’t think that was too shabby for someone over 50…. But it wasn’t gunna get me far enough in my race. Then I heard about a Navy Seal named Chad Wright ATTAG. Who taught me the power of the spoken word. That day I shattered my 38 miles, and ultimately used the name strategy to get me over the finish line of a 100 mile race The words you speak matter.
