Palestinian children are subjected to the Israeli apartheid system which includes detaining palestinian children and minors in military/administrative detention without charges or sentences. They are initially jailed for six months. Their detentions can then be repeatedly extended for an indefinite period without charge or trial. The detainees can try to appeal, all the way up to Israel's Supreme Court, but with no access to the evidence against them, they have nothing to base it on. Palestinians who are formally tried in the military courts have more access to evidence but in many cases Palestinians are deprived of defence lawyers and due process. Their conviction rate is 99%. Save the Children reported that 86 percent of children are beaten in Israeli detention, while 69 percent are strip-searched and 42 percent are subject to injuries during their arrests. In comparison, "Israeli" citizens including illegal settlers are tried in civil courts, highlighting the two-tier justice system that discriminates against Palestinians. Israeli children are also very likely to be granted bail. In 2015, Human Rights Watch found that Israeli military courts in the West Bank denied bail to Palestinian children in 72 percent of cases, while civil courts denied bail to Israealis in 17.9 percent of cases. This discrimination, racism and apartheid of Israel was one of the reason that Palestinians reached out to the BLM movement to give them advice on how to deal with police brutality, as they have generations of knowledge on how to cope under the longest brutal occupation in modern history.

📢Case C-123/22: Commission v. Hungary The #CJEU issued a judgment under Article 260(2) TFEU imposing the highest #penalty ever. The judgment is of particular relevance not only for the precise statement of the reasons that led to such a high sanction, but also because the Court took the opportunity to address issues of #constitutional relevance arising from the specific infringements alleged. ⬇️Here my commentary for Accademia Diritto e Migrazioni - ADiM 🙏

The Supreme Court of India in case, Jaseela Shaji v. The Union of India & Ors, has established two key constitutional requirements under Article 22(5) of the Indian Constitution: (1) the Detaining Authority must promptly communicate the grounds for detention to the detenu, and (2) the detenu must be given an early opportunity to make a representation against the detention order. Additionally, the detenu has the right to receive relevant documents cited in the grounds of detention; failure or delay in providing these documents constitutes a denial of the right to make an effective representation. 🇭🇷 Femicide will be considered a separate criminal offence in Croatia after Parliament passed an amendment to the criminal code with penalties ranging from 10 to 40 years in prison. 💜 This makes Croatia the third country in the European Union, along with Cyprus and Malta, to have specific penalties for gender-based killings of women. ❕Parliament also passed an amendment to the Protection from Domestic Violence Act, increasing the prison sentence for rape from three to eight years, among other measures against gender-based violence. 👉 The amendments were introduced in September last year, following the murder of a 20-year-old law student by a policeman she had rejected. Latest official records -from 2022- show 11 femicides in the country, but the number might be underreported since femicide was not a separate crime. #Croatia #Femicide #GenderBasedViolence

if you're wondering why iranians around the world are celebrating the death of iran's president, here's an overview of the man who was nicknamed "the butcher of tehran": centerforhumanrights Important facts about #Iran's President #EbrahimRaisi, who is missing after a reported helicopter crash: - Played key roles in political executions and unjust imprisonments of countless Iranians over the last three decades. - Presidency marked by severe and escalated repression against peaceful dissent - 1988 Death Commission: In 1988, Raisi was appointed to a four-man "death commission" by then-Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini. This commission paved the way for at least 4,500-5,000 prisoners to be executed and buried in unmarked mass graves, based on the committee's determination of their "loyalty" to the newly established Islamic Republic. These prisoners had already been tried and were serving their issued prison sentences. - Judiciary Chief Appointment: Appointed as judiciary chief by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in March 2019, Raisi ran for president virtually uncontested in 2021. - Harsher Forced-Hijab Enforcement: Personally ordered stricter enforcement of the state's compulsory hijab policy in July 2022, two months before the killing in state custody of Jina #MahsaAmini after the morality police arrested her for her alleged inappropriate hijab. - Despite women across the nation increasingly refusing to wear hijabs in public, Raisi's government has tried to push through a new bill that would further punish hijabless women, as well as those who serve or employ them, moving the state further into the category of gender apartheid - Escalation of State Repression: Has presided over a stunning escalation of state repression and violence against peaceful dissent, including surging executions and arbitrary arrests of peaceful protesters, as well as increased erosion of women's and human rights.

⚖️ Supreme Court Protects Personal Liberty Under Article 22(5): Preventive Detention Quashed ⚖️ In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court of India has reinforced the importance of fundamental rights by quashing a preventive detention order. The Court emphasized that failure to furnish relevant documents relied on by the detaining authority violates the detenu’s right to make an effective representation under Article 22(5) of the Constitution. Key Takeaways: The detaining authority must supply all documents relied upon for the detention to enable the detenu to challenge the detention effectively. The Court held that depriving the detenu of these documents constitutes a violation of fundamental rights, rendering the detention order invalid. The judgment reaffirms the constitutional safeguards meant to protect personal liberty, underscoring the principle that the state must follow due process in cases of preventive detention. 💡 This landmark ruling strengthens the protection of individual liberty in India, ensuring that the principles of justice and fairness are upheld in preventive detention cases. #SupremeCourt #PreventiveDetention #FundamentalRights #PersonalLiberty #Article22 #ConstitutionalLaw #JusticePrevails #LegalRights #IndianJudiciary #LawAndOrder #LegalCommunity #DueProcess #RightToRepresentation
