Social Housing: A Vital Solution for Affordable Living Recent analysis by Shelter reveals social housing in England is 64% more affordable than private renting, saving renters an average of £828 per month. With a chronic shortage of social homes and record-high private rents, many are being priced out and facing homelessness. Shelter calls for the construction of 90,000 new social homes annually for the next decade to address the housing crisis and provide stability for families. This aligns with the mission of JF Sixteen Homes to offer affordable housing solutions and support community well-being. #AffordableHousing #SocialHomes #HousingCrisis #ShelterUK #CommunitySupport #StableHousing #EndHomelessness #HousingForAll #JF16Homes #AffordableLiving #BuildSocialHomes #HousingSolutions source: https://lnkd.in/eM88mayA

This article about Evans Lane interim housing in San Jose has me thinking about three things: 1. Homelessness is not a "one solution fixes all" challenge and takes time to resolve. For some it's 3 months, for others it can be years. 2. Dignity and accessible support services are key to success. 3. We need MORE permanent affordable housing units that people can move into after an interim housing stay to truly address homelessness. An interim stay alone is not the answer.

Neighbourhood Centres are responding to the housing crisis across the state. With many community members having no housing options, they often go to Neighbourhood Centres for help. This includes homeless families seeking stable accommodation and those that are struggling to maintain tenancies because of increasing rental costs. Centres provide referral pathways to specialised housing services. Through listening to the lived experience of people experiencing housing challenges, they advocate to create change in the housing system and work with other services and businesses to address local expressions of housing crisis. They also provide spaces of social connection, food relief and other support for those experiencing housing issues. Last month, we launched Homes for Queenslanders - our vision for a fair and sustainable housing system in Queensland. We want to ensure better housing outcomes both now and for future generations, which is why this plan is backed by an initial funding uplift of an additional $3 billion investment from the Queensland Government over the next five years. Homes for Queenslanders outlines our plan to address these key housing areas: - Improving housing affordability by stimulating development and updating our planning and development framework - Supporting people in the private rental market with more products and services to help renters who are struggling - Helping more Queenslanders access pathways to home ownership - Delivering 53,500 more social homes, and working with community housing providers to increase supported accommodation for young people and those experiencing domestic and family violence - Delivering more funding for specialist homelessness services, more emergency accommodation in the regions, and more help for First Nations peoples and young people - Reviewing legislation to make sure it covers all the options available to meet Queensland’s housing needs Find out more about how we're going to achieve our vision here 👉🏾 https://lnkd.in/gfBcFRVn If you or someone you know needs housing help, you can call 13 QGOV (13 74 68) or contact your local Housing Service Centre during business hours: https://lnkd.in/giyr5fwg If you are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness, contact the Homeless Hotline for free on 1800 474 753 (24/7). Look around Cape Cod, opposition to multi-family housing in Falmouth, Sandwich and Barnstable. Higher density zoning put on hold to "study the need" even with recently adopted Housing Production Plans. Opposition to housing in village centers. The Cape Cod Commission has identified the current and projected housing shortfall, towns must be made to meet their fair share of this need. State and federal funding needs to be both a carrot and stick to get this done. 🏠 4 in 10 households seeking council support for homelessness say it's because their rental property is being sold. 🏠 Almost a third of landlords plan to reduce their property portfolio, meaning that even more households will receive eviction notices in the coming months. The delays in renting reform mean that people living in rented accommodation are at risk of being evicted with barely any notice through no fault of their own, leaving thousands facing homelessness every month. We need the next government to take action by giving more protection to private renters and drastically increasing the amount of social housing available to those in need. #PrivateRenting #RentersReform #GeneralElection

Housing and addressing homelessness is not a zero sum game. Rest assured no matter what any metropolitan area does to address affordable housing, it won't be enough. And inasmuch as every $100 increment in median rent results in a 9% increase in homelessness, holistic strategies must be pursued.

In supportive housing, tenants receive intensive coordinated support so they can get back on their feet after experiencing homelessness. Often people transitioning out of homelessness need both a roof over their head and scaffolding to maintain their tenancy. This type of housing acknowledges that social housing is not one size fits all. We’re calling on the Queensland Government to make sure their historic social housing build includes 10% supportive housing. Karyn Walsh, CEO and Town of Nowhere Partner from Micah Projects, says giving stability to people who need additional support makes social and economic sense. #homelessnessweek2024 #townofnowhere Anglicare NQ DVCONNECT Wesley Mission Queensland YFS Ltd 54 reasons Brisbane Youth Service Footprints Community Lifeline Darling Downs and South West QLD Ltd Micah Projects Mission Australia Queensland Meals on Wheels Ltd Vinnies QLD Kyabra Community Association Anglicare Southern Queensland Common Ground Queensland Anglicare Central Queensland CatholicCare Social Services Southern QLD UnitingCare Queensland
