During your walk, intentionally focus on finding two beautiful, eye-catching, joy-producing things to take a photo of. FYI: Today, I took a photo of some lovely crocuses and another photo of a cat sitting in a window. Sometimes, I forget to take the photos, which is fine. The singular word ‘priority’ has been around since the 1400’s - Singular - One priority - One focus The plural ‘priorities’ did not exist until the 1900’s. This idea of multiple ‘priorities’ waters down any focus and means we are spreading out focus, therefore ‘prioritising’ nothing! When you start your day, you probably have 10+ important tasks, but decide on your singular priority for that moment… complete it… rinse and repeat. Not only does this help focus, but also reduces the feeling of overwhelm and decision fatigue as you have taken control and have decided on the success you are aiming towards in that moment! Lately I found myself sharing Heraclitus's saying with clients: "You can never step into the same river twice." It used to be on my photography website. My photography practice was a kind of contemplative practice for me; I was heavily influenced by a book called "Tao of Photography: Seeing Beyond Seeing" and the work of Minor White. Maybe I will write about this - the topic deserves its own post! But I digress... I have always loved this saying. You can never step into the same river twice. It points to the fact that each moment is new and unique, even when it resembles something that happened in the past, or even when we find ourselves behaving in an habitual manner. Each moment, EVERY MOMENT (no exception!) is always different. There is no exact repeating it, just like there is no going back. To me, it follows that: - The present moment is an awe-inspiring occurrence to be grateful for OR - if it's a tough moment - to trust that it will pass. - Even if it looks like I am facing a similar circumstance to something from the past, it is not the same. And most importantly, I am not the same. - Renew, rebirth, beginner's mind, childlike wonder, being fully present, openness, curiosity, hope... this is what it means to be aligned with the deeper, joyous, creative, wonderful reality of being human. Today, if you feel like trying something different, remind yourself once in a while, as you go by your day, that you can never step into the same river twice. And rejoice.
