If you ignore this one financial principle during your divorce... It can lead to unnecessary stress and financial hardship. 👉 Build an emergency fund 👈 Divorce brings uncertainty. Having a financial cushion can make a world of difference. Consider these unexpected expenses: • Legal fees • Moving costs • Setting up a new household • Medical expenses • Childcare and education expenses An emergency fund can help you navigate these challenges without going into debt. Here's my advice: ✅ Start small but start now: Even $500 can make a difference. Aim to save 3-6 months' worth of expenses over time. ✅ Automate your savings: Set up automatic transfers to your emergency fund. Out of sight, out of mind, but growing steadily. ✅ Keep it accessible but separate: Use a high-yield savings account that's easy to access in an emergency but separate from your everyday spending. This simple step can significantly improve your financial resilience during this transition. Don't you think? 💸 If you liked this post, you will love my new podcast. If you screw up this one life decision, it can hurt your financial future. 👉 Talk about money with your partner 👈 Managing your money solo is hard enough (and might have been a source of contention during a first marriage), but it get's even more complicated post-divorce when a new relationship develops. Consider these crucial aspects of your financial life: • How much you save & invest • How much house you can afford • How you spend your monthly income • How you plan for life in your later years • How you navigate big financial decisions The list goes on and on. Make sure you talk about these things. Money problems are a leading cause of divorce and it causes many second divorces. But are these really "money problems"? Nope! - They are "communication problems" 🗣 Here's my advice: ✅ **Talk about money with your partner:** Open and honest discussions about finances can prevent misunderstandings and build a stronger financial partnership. Set aside time to discuss your financial goals, concerns, and spending habits. ✅ **Schedule weekly money dates:** Regular check-ins can help you stay aligned on your financial journey. Use these meetings to review your budget, track your progress towards goals, and address any financial issues that arise. ✅ **Get + stay on the same page:** Consistency is key. Make sure you both agree on your financial plans and priorities, and revisit them regularly to ensure you're both on track. This alignment is crucial for a harmonious financial life. This approach is massively underrated for a happier financial life. Don't you think? 💸 If you liked this post, you will love my new podcast.
