Talking about modernisation of the local government system in #Pakistan to make it well-financed and directed towards economic change with better trade and industrial strategies for local development. No other institution can help political parties develop "democratic credentials" with demonstrable service delivery than the local governments. Special thanks to Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) and Mukhtar A. Ali United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) #LocalGovernment

Islamabad (Imrana Komal ) Gilani calls for creating more economic resilience, social cohesiveness to boost investors’ confidence Pakistan wants peace & stability in the region: Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani #ChairmanSenate #SyedYousafRazaGilani has said that #developingnations particularly in the #GlobalSouth are #navigating great power #competition #amidst bloc politics and economic containment and they face an increasing divide with wealthier nations, further #marginalizing their #economic and #security options. “This #stark reality is reflected in conflicts like the #UkrainianWar and tensions in #Gaza, where geopolitical interests often obscure humanitarian imperatives”, he observed. The Chairman Senate was addressing #IPRI #MargallaDialogue2024 in Islamabad on Wednesday. The theme of the #dialogue was #EmergingGlobalRealities; #ChallengesandResponses”. #imranakomal #imranasaghar #bunjaarun

Comment by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk on violence in #Myanmar’s #RakhineState " I am deeply alarmed by reports of renewed violence and property destruction in Buthidaung township in Myanmar’s northern Rakhine state, resulting in the displacement of potentially tens of thousands of civilians, mainly Rohingya. With inter-communal tensions between ethnic Rakhine and #Rohingya high – and being actively stoked by the military – this is a critical period when the risk of yet further atrocity crimes is particularly acute. While we seek to corroborate information indicating serious violations, I appeal directly to the Myanmar military and Arakan Army to pause the fighting, protect civilians, allow immediate and unhindered humanitarian access, and comply fully and unconditionally with international law – including the measures already ordered by the International Court of Justice for the protection of #Rohingya. I also appeal to #Bangladesh to once again extend protection to vulnerable people seeking safety, and for the international community to provide all necessary support.” https://lnkd.in/gYg-m4pB

Following the adoption of two bills by Israel’s parliament on 28 October 2024, UNRWA is threatened with having to cease its operations in the West Bank and Gaza by the end of the year. No other humanitarian organisation or authority can take on UNRWA's tasks in Gaza. Hindering the agency's work jeopardises the entire aid operation for Palestinian victims in Gaza. Given the absence of a political solution and the continuing occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and particularly amidst the current hostilities, UNRWA’s essential services are vital to the survival of thousands of Palestinians. PeaceWomen Across the Globe calls on ➡️ Israel to desist from criminalising UNRWA's activities. ➡️ Switzerland not to go through with the proposed funding cuts to UNWRA and to continue supporting UNRWA. ➡️ on the parties involved to honour their responsibilities under international law and cease hostilities and engage in the processes needed for meaningful and inclusive peace negotiations. ❗ PeaceWomen Across the Globe stresses that the meaningful participation of women at all stages of a peace process is essential to its success and sustainability. ❗ Read the full statement on our website: https://lnkd.in/eyg9N5f6

The Sudanese revolution has revealed the short-sightedness of all the existing Sudanese political parties. It has proven their inability to develop a collective, clear vision, or a genuine national political program that would take the country out of the spiral of historical political chaos that has plagued it since independence. They have also miserably failed in managing their internal organizational disputes, and to prioritise the interests of citizens over their narrow organizational interests and the interests of regional states who have historically been interested in this vast land with all of its geopolitical values as well as rich natural resources. Those internal disputes between right and left have eventually lead the country into a declared proxy war against the Sudanese state, led by the same forein allies and states involved in its political reform since 2019, who are also the primary beneficiaries of this political chaos and instability. Sudanese youth must form political organizations and parties to represent them and the demands of their generation, and work to organize their internal minor disagreements and free themselves out of the trap which the Sudanese traditional political elites have set up for them. Sudanese youth must take the lead for political action instead of remaining within the category of temporary pressure bodies and small grassroots civil society groups. Those traditional parties are obviously incompetent, and have proven their failure and inability to adapt to the rapid development of the Sudanese society, they have also failed to adopt a pragmatic approach in order to form stable relations with each other internally to improve the political reform process without the need to rely upon violence as usual. #sudan #sudanese #africa #youth #political #politics #war #africa #african
