Mid-October already! In my experience, things can get a bit “silly” at this time of year as we head down the slippery slope to our summer breaks… 🍄 people can get a bit prickly, and small things can “mushroom” into bigger things 🧹 teams find themselves under pressure to “clean” everything up before the end of the year - people problems, projects, loose ends. ⏰ we can lose sense of time and how much we can really achieve in that last run before offices start closing and the dress shoes are swapped for jandals 🩴 If you or your team are experiencing any of these things, and need some extra support to resolve issues or close out some projects - reach out! This is our summer team building activity. While we all have a few days “in-office” together each week, summer vacations can make it a bit hit and miss. So, we are co-creating a new world (1000 piece puzzle) together. The only rule is that everyone participates for a minimum of 15 minutes a week and a maximum of 30. Can visitors join in? Sure. 15 minutes. Can two or more work on the puzzle at the same time? Absolutely - though this is not for everyone. (Ambar Syed and Ursula Ladner ) Can you ask the CEO whose office the puzzle is in to take her laptop elsewhere? You bet. Honestly Christopher Kannampuzha and Farzana N. it is totally fine to kick me out!! Once the puzzle is done, our office elder Joan along with her sidekick Nada will choose how to celebrate. And, we will all answer two questions. 1. What did you learn about your colleagues through this co-creation process? 2. What did you learn about yourself? Easy. Fun. A sense of accomplishment. How I Mastered Time Zones as a Virtual Assistant (and You Can Too!) Back in the day, when I was a new virtual assistant, one of my biggest challenges was managing time zone differences. I remember a specific scenario where I was supposed to attend a call with a client based in New York. I assumed their time was the same as mine and didn’t double-check. I logged into the meeting at what I thought was the right time, only to realize I was two hours late. The client had waited, then left. I was so embarrassed, and it taught me a tough lesson. To solve this, I started using Time Buddy, a tool that shows time differences between cities. Now, before I schedule anything, I always confirm the client’s time zone and match it to mine. I also double-check meeting times and send reminders to ensure we’re aligned. These small steps make a huge difference in avoiding mix-ups. For new VAs, using tools like Time Buddy is a lifesaver.
