Gasum has opened our newest LBG filling station in Liminka south of Oulu. This is our 19th LBG filling station in Finland and offers only liquified biogas for heavy duty vehicles. Location is perfect just in the road junction of Tupos. On Friday, December 20, 2024, PT Santi Energi Hijau signed a partnership agreement with BRIN - Pusat Riset Teknologi Industri Proses & Manufaktur (BRIN - PRTIPM), PT Summit Niaga (100% subsidiary of Sumitomo Corp.) and BINEX. This project agreement aims to raise sorghum productivity and quality, develop a sustainable sorghum value chain, and make sorghum one of Indonesia’s main sources of bioenergy. Interesting to see the global move towards methanol (such as Vopak's bunkering facility in Singapore) as the fuel du jour for marine transportation as the anticipated demand growth is significant as we see traditional marine bunker fuel be displaced over the next decade as per IMO marine fuel standards. The number of methanol powered containerships is adding up quickly as Maersk alone is scheduled to take possession of 18 ships over the next two years. A very large opportunity for Canadian and Alberta production - should we choose to actively invest in methanol and approve terminals on the waterfront as well as remove federal regulatory red tape.
Vopak is thrilled to support the completion of Singapore’s first simultaneous methanol bunkering operation. This project marks a milestone in Singapore’s maritime decarbonization journey. X-Press Feeders' container vessel, Eco Maestro, was successfully refueled with approximately 300 metric tons of bio-methanol from Stellar Shipmanagement’s bunker tanker, Kara, while restowing containers at Tuas Port. Kara had earlier taken bio-methanol supplied by OCI Fuels stored at Vopak Penjuru Terminal. Vopak has been safely storing and handling the bulk of methanol imports to Singapore for more than 30 years, including trucking and shipping imports for methanol aggregation. Prior to the latest methanol bunkering feat, Vopak also supported Singapore's recent bunkering operations involving the largest volume of blended green methanol at its Penjuru terminal, and the first bio-methanol bunkering trial at its Sakra terminal last year. All four of Vopak's terminals in Singapore have an International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), demonstrating our ability to store low carbon fuels like green methanol. Using advanced gasification technology, this facility will produce 500 tonnes of high-quality biochar annually, alongside renewable energy and significant carbon removal. Our high-temperature process (>850°C) ensures extremely stable biochar, maximizing long-term carbon sequestration. Commencement of a Joint Study for the Establishment of an Ammonia Supply Chain Based in the Tomakomai Area of Hokkaido Summary: On April 25, Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Ltd., Hokkaido Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., IHI Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and Tomakomai Futo Co., Ltd., (the “six companies”), have started a joint study for the establishment of an ammonia supply chain based in the Tomakomai area of Hokkaido, Japan. The six companies will work on studies related to the establishment of facilities for receiving, storing, and supplying ammonia from overseas in the Tomakomai area, as well as surveys aimed at expanding the use of ammonia throughout Northern Japan. The Tomakomai area, where the six companies aim to develop a base, has vast land available for the installation of facilities required for the establishment of an ammonia supply chain, such as the possibility of adding storage tanks to meet future demand increases. Additionally, as the largest marine transportation hub in Northern Japan, the area has shipping routes accessible to both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, enabling the supply of ammonia not only to demand sites close to the Tomakomai area but also to hydrogen demand sites throughout Northern Japan by utilizing domestic vessels and other means. Going Forward: In parallel with this joint study, the six companies are discussing the establishment of an ammonia supply chain with Kushiro Power Station Co., Ltd., Nippon Beet Sugar Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Oenon Holdings, Inc., which are potential customers for ammonia utilization. The six companies will utilize their respective technologies and expertise to establish an ammonia supply chain in the broader Northern Japan region, starting from the Tomakomai area, aiming to expand the use of ammonia and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society. To reach this goal, the six companies will continue to work towards the realization of projects that can contribute to the decarbonization of the area and economic development, with the cooperation of Hokkaido and Tomakomai City, combination of both public and private sectors. The Norwegian boat manufacturer is deepening its roots in Kaunas with a €20 million investment and a brand-new 10,000 m² facility. This state-of-the-art expansion brings: 🔹 Advanced manufacturing technologies like robotics and automation 🔹 Renewable energy systems, with solar and geothermal sources covering over 50% of energy needs 🔹 30 new jobs in the Kaunas region But it’s more than just infrastructure.
