The demand for counselling has risen dramatically in response to the explosion in mental health needs. Counselling can and does make a significant contribution to the problem- empowering individuals to understand their feelings and work towards strategies which support in managing them. Recent reporting in the Guardian newspaper, followed by lobbying from MP’s has once again put the spotlight on the need for further regulation in the sector. The terms psychotherapist and counsellor are not protected titles, meaning that anyone can set themselves up in practice without the need for membership of a professional governing body. TACaccess has built its reputation on the due diligence carried out on every professional registered on the platform. Every professional registering is subject to rigorous checks to ensure that they are safe and qualified to offer services for children and young people. First and foremost this means having a DBS check. Anyone offering counselling or therapy to under 18’s must have an enhanced check which is registered with the online update service. They must also be a member of a PSA or HCPC approved professional body such as BACP or National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society #counselling #mentalhealth

Norris, Ph.D., LMCH (WA), LPC-S (AZ), LPCC (CA)NCC, who has developed a community-oriented, Hip Hop-infused therapy program and recently released a Hip Hop counseling certificate program. "Many folks are using Hip Hop ... as an intervention alongside other approaches. What I'm suggesting is that Hip Hop alone is its own healing property." APA have brought to our attention here a very interesting point. The individual needs of people for MH support post covid is astronomical; the previous government were aware of this and yet the pathways for people to engage in physiological support is still a minefield. The UK government have a duty to address this and APA have made it they’re business to highlight this. Their work demonstrates the importance for a Governing Body within the sector here in the UK and is something I support wholeheartedly. It is everyone’s responsibility to become aware and knowledgable of the impacts of NOT introducing a Governing Body. What are your thoughts on this..? #inspirus #apa #mentalhealth #changemakers

PERFECT THERAPISTS DON'T EXIST If only those who had perfect lives could be therapists, then there would be no therapists. Often, what draws people into the therapy field, is their own struggles with their mental health. We struggle in our relationships, setting boundaries and managing overwhelming emotions. But that doesn't mean we cannot help you with your own struggles. We need each other because we cannot see ourselves without bias. Because therapists are outsiders, we can take an objective view and use evidence-based interventions to guide you to do the very same things we struggle with. And then, we often need to see our own therapists to get this same guidance. If you need objective guidance, feel free to book a free 15 min consultation to learn more about the types of groups I run or for individual counselling here: https://buff.ly/3Kjh3tp
