The demand for counselling has risen dramatically in response to the explosion in mental health needs. Counselling can and does make a significant contribution to the problem- empowering individuals to understand their feelings and work towards strategies which support in managing them. Recent reporting in the Guardian newspaper, followed by lobbying from MP’s has once again put the spotlight on the need for further regulation in the sector.  The terms psychotherapist and counsellor are not protected titles, meaning that anyone can set themselves up in practice without the need for membership of a professional governing body. TACaccess has built its reputation on the due diligence carried out on every professional registered on the platform. Every professional registering is subject to rigorous checks to ensure that they are safe and qualified to offer services for children and young people. First and foremost this means having a DBS check. Anyone offering counselling or therapy to under 18’s must have an enhanced check which is registered with the online update service. They must also be a member of a PSA or HCPC approved professional body such as BACP or National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society #counselling #mentalhealth
