Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." - Confucius Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a networking evening hosted by JPMorgan Brussels, focused on supporting young women interested in building careers in finance. It was inspiring to see so many talented, motivated young women eager to seek advice on starting their journeys in the financial world. Two key insights stood out to me: 1 - Applying Despite Imperfections: Many attendees shared their hesitation about applying for roles because they didn’t meet every requirement in the job listing. My advice? Apply anyway! Meeting every requirement isn’t always essential, and self-doubt should never hold you back. Women, in particular, can sometimes underestimate their abilities. I wish we could offer self-confidence courses to young girls to help them grow with the same confidence as their male counterparts! 2 - Defining a Career Path: I was also asked several times, How do I reach a specific role in finance? My answer is simple: know your strengths (tip - it is often something you consider 'just normal and/or natural') and seek roles where those strengths will be assets. Craft your personal story around this unique ability—your Unique Selling Point (USP)—and go for it. Employers are looking for candidates who are self-aware and know how to leverage their strengths. Thanks to Jehane Rousseaux for organising and Tanguy Piret for inviting me! #womeninfinance #womeninpayments #womeninassetmanagement #womenintreasury #JPMAM #JPMAMGloballiquidity #USP #startingyourcareer #SolvayBrussels #WomeninBusiness #JPMorgan #1stjob #startinginfinance

Research shows that globally over 280 million young people are not in active employment, education or training, of whom a majority are female. With a large proportion of these young people living in the markets Standard Chartered calls home, we know that there is a significant role we must play to support those who do not have equal access to the skills and opportunities needed to make a better future for themselves and their communities. So, I am proud of the impact we have been driving through Futuremakers, our global youth economic empowerment initiative to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion. By focussing programmes on employability and entrepreneurship, we have been aiming to give young people access to the skills, networks and support they need to gain decent work, and for young entrepreneurs to create sustainable jobs. In the five years since its launch, working closely with our NGO partners, we have reached c2.8 million young people across over 40 markets, of which 66% have been young girls and women. Over 45,000 young people have secured employment and more than 54,000 have improved their knowledge and skills required to build their microbusinesses. As we mark World Youth Skills Day today, I am excited about our ambition to further help create and sustain 140,000 jobs by 2030 …. after all, supporting young people to learn, earn and grow is not just a good thing to do; it is critical for creating a more diverse talent pool and in turn building a resilient economy. #hereforgood #skills #inclusion

The statistic highlighting that over 280 million young people globally are not in active employment, education, or training, with a majority being female, is indeed concerning. This underscores the urgent need for targeted interventions to address gender disparities and provide better opportunities for young women. Efforts should focus on improving access to education, vocational training, and employment opportunities for young women, ensuring they have the skills and support needed to thrive in the workforce. Empowering young women through education and employment is not only a matter of equity but also essential for economic growth and social development. What are your thoughts on how we can address this issue effectively?

Is The Netherlands ready for more women in Finance? 🤔 To be honest, sometimes I do wonder if that is the case... Let me tell you why. ☎️ Last week I had a call with GAIN UK, who are doing an amazing job in inspiring young women to start a career in investments. They really act from the "bottom-up" approach, in fact they start at highschools where they talk about what it is like to be an investor and why you (as woman) could be one too in the future! When these women start their university journey, Gain offers multiple programs from "insight-days" for the first/second year students to eventually internship opportunities. They have 1000s of applications for their intern program each year. Why? Because they really succeed in increasing the female talentpool early on! ❤️ And the best thing is? Companies in The UK actually want to invest in it and see that it is a long-term commitment to get more women into their fields! If it is not now, then it will be in 3 years! 👉 Now, let me paint a picture of the conversations we have (often) with companies: Company: "We’re looking for an intern and want to hire more women." FxF: "That’s fantastic! We’ve built a community of over 6,000 female talents by investing in early-stage students. We can collaborate to bring more women into Finance and your company." Company: "That sounds great! Can you send us three profiles by tomorrow?" FxF: "Well, it's not that simple. We only work with companies that are really committed to DEI: We first verify your culture and after that we start an annual partnerships so we can invest in growing the female talent pool while enhancing your brand awareness—so more women know who you are and are interested in applying at your company." Company: "How can I be sure you’ll deliver?" (Meaning: we hire female talent) FxF: "The truth is… you don’t. It totally depends on your flexibility and efforts as well." ❗️ This highlights a critical gap. While companies express their desire for more women in finance, the commitment to invest in in the next generation and their culture is is essential for real change. 🌟 One of the most successful partnerships we've had is with Accuracy, why? They really see the value of long-term investing and were one of our first partners. They started with (1) Being at all our events, to increase their brand awareness & (2) hiring women with multiple backgrounds (bachelor/ master it didn't matter) and (3) Really believe in what we do! Let's challenge the status quo and truly invest in the future of women in finance! If you are a company that is willing to invest in the next generation, reach out to us! Let's make the Finance sector more diverse & inclusive, together! #storytelling #impact #womeninfinance #diversity #inclusion #nextgen
