One of the crucial aspects of the Montessori method establishes that children should not be considered “miniature adults,” but rather they are unique in their stage of development and self-managers of their own “path” of learning. Therefore, it is significant to note that the repercussions of positive or negative influence in the early stages of development will have consequences on the future behavior of students. This stage was so important for María Montessori that she affirms that “The child is the most important part of the adult's life,” because it is the child who, from an early stage, “builds” the adult of tomorrow and those influences are of such a level of sensitivity that they must be treated with the utmost care, due to the influence on the formation of the future adult to come. We can establish in this context that the application of criticism, as well as praise, within the teaching classrooms or outside them (such as the child's social or family environment) must have a determining influence on his or her subsequent development. The next question is obvious, what role is established for discipline within the Montessori method? Like any teaching method that is carried out on the individual, but has an impact on society, here the limit is the common good. May the good practices of our classes be the ideal support for the children who are in our classes today, the virtues and potential of their abilities will grow to adulthood naturally and will be of benefit to the society of tomorrow. May our behavior favor praise, and motivation and always keep in mind the profound impact of our words and actions on the lives of students. To finish these lines, I remember with special interest the biblical words that, full of enormous wisdom, remind me of the value of constructive words and their influence on others, “A golden apple with silver figures, is the word said as it should.” Proverbs 25:11 #montessori #montessorieducation #teaching #education #discipline
