Thank you for bringing these panellists together in a manner that discussed how similar we all seem to be, with the obvious added extras, but more importantly, for all who attend to challenging work and the way of thinking in freelancing. 🌟 Mandatory Lazy Day for Freelancers 🌟 Let's face it, freelancers. The idea of a "weekend" often feels as mythical as a unicorn in our world. But here’s a radical thought: what if we actually took a full day off each week? Yes, an entire day without sneaking a peek at emails or doodling project ideas on napkins during family lunch. Committing to one day of rest might just prevent us from turning into work-obsessed zombies. It's a chance to recharge those creative batteries (because let's be honest, they've been flashing red for a while), reflect on why we chose the freelance hustle (glutton for punishment, perhaps?), and connect with those people who vaguely resemble friends and family. Consider this your official permission slip to be gloriously unproductive. The proof that we did it 💪 The First Freelance Policy Forum Europe took place in Brussels yesterday... Going in, I didn’t have huge expectations for this inaugural event. Just having a platform to share freelancers' concerns felt like it would already be a big win. But the event delivered so much more! First, we heard a whole range of perspectives on where freelancers “fit.” Should we be considered businesses or entrepreneurs? Solopreneurs with a unique status? Part of the self-employed, employed, or something else entirely? Are freelancers microbusinesses? The diversity of viewpoints was eye-opening. It was good to discuss that not every #freelancer per se runs their activity as a business, many of us choose to freelance because it fits our life-conditions (alternative to this - no job at all) Secondly, representing all freelancers is a good cause, but not achievable. We need to be specific, which category of freelancers we are trying to protect. And lastly, it was so important to hear suggestions from experts in the policy domain of how to make freelancers voices heard. The bottom line: An organisation advocating for freelancers should exist, and the work needs to be done. Looks like I know what 2025 has in store for me! :-) Who's with me?
