We come across waste every day in our daily lives and constantly strive to reduce it, but what about the waste that’s already there, lying in landfills for decades? This "legacy waste" poses significant environmental and health risks. I am excited to share that I have started my internship at the Bihar State Pollution Control Board, where I will be focusing on developing sustainable strategies for legacy waste management. Legacy waste, accumulated over years in landfills and dumpsites, is a ticking time bomb. It contaminates our soil and water, emits harmful greenhouse gases, and occupies valuable land that could be repurposed for better use. Addressing this issue is essential for preventing further environmental degradation and ensuring a healthier future for our communities. By effectively managing legacy waste, we can transition towards a circular economy where resources are reused and recycled, leading us closer to our goal of zero emissions. My mission is to contribute to a cleaner and greener Bihar. I want to thank Shruti S. ma’am, Moumita Acharyya ma’am Sonika Goyal ma’am for their constant support and guidance. #sustainability #legacywaste #environmentalsustainability #wastecircularity

Issues pertaining to Waste Management are burgeoning in India. No amount of governmental action is sufficient, unless it is supplemented by individual and community efforts. The #citizens, #communities, #businesses and all other stakeholders have a huge role to play. In the recent past, several developments around solid waste management have taken place, especially with regard to the generation of bulk #wastes. The urban local bodies, which are tasked with solid waste management are developing systems to ensure waste segregation at source, streaming of different kinds of wastes into different channels etc. With this backdrop, we present our latest #RuleSutra update pertaining to the responsibilities of the bulk waste generators under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. Read through the same, stay updated and do your bit to help solve the issue. www.ehsguru.com | www.ErgoTattva.com Subscribe to our hashtag #RuleSutra series by clicking on this link - https://lnkd.in/gBK-YpnN Follow us on LinkedIn - https://lnkd.in/dKNerRmw Munish Kumar Ashwani Kumar Jha Devanand Babu Niraj Khare Shubham Shukla ANUJ SINGH SUSHREE SUNANDA SAHU Shikha Sharma Hridishruti Saikia Bhavya Singh Amit Kumar Jangra Mohini Arora Ritika Tripathi Nimisha Sharma Lakshita Sharma kavita Rathore Kirti Jha Municipal Corporation of Gurugram #egss #ehsguru #wastemanagement #solidwaste #solidwastemanagement #bulkwastegenerator #India #regulatorycompliance #urbanlocalbodies #wastesegregation

DRISHTI CPS recently facilitated extensive field visits for Belgian students from Université catholique de Louvain and Indian students from Indian Institute of Technology, Indore. 🚮🌍 During these visits, students engaged with key stakeholders in the waste management ecosystem, including: Government Initiatives: They visited Ever Enviro’s BIO CNG plant, a public-private partnership with Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC), which converts wet waste into CNG and compost. They also explored IMC’s Garbage Transfer Station, where wet and dry waste from door-to-door collection is segregated, compacted, and sent to facilities like EverEnviro Resource Management Private Limited and NEPRA - Let's Recycle for further processing. Private Sector: Students interacted with Swaaha Resource Management Private Limited, gaining insights into their waste collection and compaction processes. They observed how Swaaha’s operations align with IMC for efficient waste management. This hands-on experience was invaluable for the students, providing a comprehensive understanding of integrated waste management systems in Indore City, which has retained its title as the cleanest city in India consecutively for 7 years in a row. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Urbanization, as presented above, presents a critical concern in the way such cities dispose of their waste since effective waste management helps control health, the environment, and the economy of a community. A clear visible difference between a clean, sustainable community and one plagued by pollution and disease can easily be observed in the presence or absence of effective waste management. On the other side, unmanaged wastes create massive environmental and health hazards. For example, a city like Mumbai generates 7,000 plus metric tons of waste every day, a major portion of which finds its way to landfills. The consequent waste pits attract pests, contaminate ground water, and also emit greenhouse gases, hence causing climatic disorders. In addition, poorly managed streams of waste tend to choke rivers and oceans where it directly influences marine life and the entire ecosystem. Proper waste disposal cuts down pollution, encourages recycling, and contributes to a cleanliness landscape of Indian urban areas. The cities, where the ranking of the cleanest cities of India under Swachh Bharat Mission includes Indore, show the benefits of properly structured waste management. It has helped increase reuse rates, cut down open dumping and increased public health. India finds itself in a serious waste management crisis, Indian cities supposedly generate 62 million tons annually and collect only 43 million, with less than 12 million processed. The gap leaves a concrete reason for changing policies toward waste, spreading awareness, and making citizens a part of the betterment of areas. Cleaner cities toward a healthy environment. #cleancities #wastemanagement #sustainableliving #urbanhealth #indiaswachhbharat #recyclingmatters #greencities #saveourplanet #ecofriendly #reducewaste
