Absolutely inspired by the powerful panel discussion on "Unleashing Powerful Partnerships for Women's Health Equity" organised by the The Global Surgery Foundation during the 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) by World Health Organization. The energy in the room was palpable, both in person and online and all credits goes to the Moderator Femi Oke. Having been to Geneva myself in 2022, I felt this and Professor Rifat Atun said it very rightly   We need to collaborate more like this but also make it happen in your own countries. Profound gratitude to  to Carlos Castillejos, M.D. DrPH. for highlighting the three core values of health equity. 1. Community-Centered Programs. 2. Diverse, Competent Healthcare Workforce. 3. Access to Quality Care.  The messages that resonated with me deeply were: You don't have a health system if you do not provide surgical care. Surgery and surgical care are the cornerstones of strengthening the healthcare system. Partnerships are incredibly important and should span across design, funding, engineering, civil society, and community. De-centralize resources and distribute them to places where they are needed. Lastly, an important message to all healthcare professionals "No woman should die while bringing life into the world, and no woman should die of any preventable disease." ARPA-H is launching its first-ever “Sprint for Women’s Health.” Over the next year, $100 million will be invested to fund life-changing research. This initiative aims to fill the gaps in research on diseases and conditions that only affect women or affect women and men differently. Many medical studies have focused on men, leaving women out. As a result, medicine dosages, treatments, and medical school textbooks are based on men and their bodies, which doesn’t always apply to women. This project aims to change that. Exciting discoveries for women’s health often never leave the lab because they’re seen as “too risky” to invest in. But with this initiative, ARPA-H is making the types of investments that will change everything. Researchers, doctors, and women are excited about this project. 🚀 New Publication Alert! 🚀 We’re excited to share research from our Institute and a multidisciplinary team of experts, published in JMIR Publications's Journal of Medical Internet Research! Titled “Challenges and Alternatives to Evaluation Methods and Regulation Approaches for Medical Apps as Mobile Medical Devices”, this study, led by Dr. Laura Maaß, Dr. Felix Holl, FAMIA and co-authors, highlights the limitations of using randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate medical apps and suggests alternative methods that better align with the dynamic nature of digital health interventions. The research involved an international focus group discussion with experts from Germany, Italy, Australia, and Canada, addressing the need for flexible regulatory approaches. The study proposes a logic model that integrates evaluation and regulation processes, emphasizing the necessity of evolving beyond traditional methods for evaluating mobile medical devices. If you are curious about what I am emphasizing on, you are kindly invited to read our latest research article, the result of our interdisciplinary project conducted by our postdoc, Dr. Zahra Assadi, and valuable supervision of Dr. Elahe Masaeli. Thanks to all colleagues and collaborators in this masterpiece. In this work, we aimed to engineer an innovative guided bone regeneration (GBR) membrane with dual features, fostering dental bone growth while concurrently displaying antibacterial properties. This project addresses periodontal disease, which is a prevalent chronic condition that often results in the deterioration of dental bone structures and subsequent tooth loss, contributing to significant health complications in adults.
