Time to bill is something I talk a lot about with clients when doing budgets for their sales teams. It's always longer than most people think. It takes time to be familiar with the way the Company operates, the sector, building up relationships and contacts. It's no different for people in support functions. So many owners think that many finance people can hit the ground running with some experience (and some can!) but the reality is that it takes time to understand the quirks of the business. Remember this when preparing your budgets for the new financial year and when to hire. Azuki Accounts - finance for recruitment #Azukiyouraccounts

It's become a recruitment truism that it's very very hard in the current climate to attract and retain senior finance folk in the culture sector - the logic goes that the public culture sector cannot compete with the private sector on salary; professionals with these skills could earn alot more in other fields. So what's the answer? Supposedly most culture orgs hope to get lucky and recruit people who have the requisite strategic finance skills and will accept less pay for the 'love of culture'. In other words - a wing and a prayer. This seems like a failure of imagination to me. We are recruiting for a Finance Director Birmingham Museums Trust - let me know if you're interested, know anyone who is or if you have any thoughts on this conundrum. All culture sector orgs have this issue - there must be a solution.
Delighted to be working with Zak Mensah and Sara Wajid to recruit their next Director of Finance. Link in comments to apply or contact me directly for a confidential discussion.
