🌟 We are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking project aimed at fostering an Autism-Friendly environment across the hospitality industry in the EU. This initiative is designed to empower managers and staff within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the hospitality sector to deliver adapted services that cater to the unique needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 🔹 Project Aim: Our mission is to qualify hospitality professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide exceptional, inclusive service to all customers, including those with ASD. By embracing this initiative, we're not just enhancing service quality; we're promoting inclusivity and understanding within our communities. 🔹 Together with Asociación FRESS and Autism Friendly Club, we at Folkuniversitetet in Uppsala will implement this exciting project during the next 16 months in the hospitality sector in Sweden and Spain. This initiative is more than a project; it's a movement towards creating a more inclusive society, one step at a time. The Next Steps Neurodiversity Resource Fair is designed to address the often frustrating and time-consuming process of finding autism and neurodiversity-related resources and support. By bringing together a diverse array of providers in one location, this in-person fair offers attendees the unique opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations, obtain direct answers, and access valuable support efficiently. Instead of spending countless hours searching online or following dead-end leads, participants can gather a wealth of information and connect with multiple resources in just one day. To mark Neurodiversity Celebration Week we are sharing these insights from Chris McLeod, about his role as one of our wonderful Assistant Coaches. Chris tells us what his role involves, what he finds most fulfilling about his job and why he would encourage anyone to be an Assistant Coach at Sport for Confidence! Sport for Confidence strives to be an inclusive place to work, providing opportunities for employment for people of all backgrounds and abilities and giving them the chance to learn, grow and develop. Our Assistant Coach roles were initially made possible for 1 year by the Essex County Council Learning Disability and Autism fund and 3 years on we haven’t looked back, and neither have our Assistant Coaches! 🙌 #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. Lauren provides expert court reports for parents with a learning disability or who are neuro divergent, assessing with insight from her lived experience, as Lauren is neurodivergent herself. Lauren will explore the emergence of neurodiversity over recent years and the key issues for both social workers who are neurodivergent, and the families that we support within social work. Why neurodiversity matters in social work. This workshop examines: - What neurodivergence is, - The challenges, - Strengths and - Key issues within society that impact on ND communities, in particular, social care staff and families. Lauren Crickmar provides a unique insight into neurodiversity as a social worker, the challenges and superpowers and how ND staff can be supported within their organisations, using case studies, good practice guidance and the law to demonstrate how, with acceptance, understanding and thinking outside the box, parents can be supported to safely care for their children. Lauren has worked intensively with ND families and Local Authorities will know that learning disabilities or neurodiversity is being raised more frequently within care proceedings.
