In 2012, a major fire and explosion occurred in Reynosa, Mexico, when a large diameter natural gas pipeline ruptured, causing 31 fatalities and many injuries. The incident occurred at a natural gas metering station that takes natural gas, separates the impurities, condenses it, and then sends it on to the distribution system.
