Last week, we hosted some of our most generous supporters and community members at the first ever Builder's Society Social. It was a lovely evening spent at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum, hearing from our President & CEO, Kira Khazatsky, and a other former clients about how JVS supported their journeys to employment. We're so grateful for all those who support our work — with your partnership, we can make such an impact! Special thanks to everyone at the Museum for making it such a memorable night. This is what it is all about! Simply breaking bread together with strangers that become friends and community can be a revolutionary act. Here's to all of you amazing community builders out there, making it happen. It doesn't have to be complicated, expensive, or "perfect" - just real human connection. #designforconnection #socialhealth #communitybuilding
"How a Simple Potluck Sparked a Global Community-Building Movement" • 3 years ago: We rented tables and chairs for a neighborhood potluck • Goal: Connect neighbors, build community, have fun • Now: Spreading to cities worldwide Why This Matters? Now more than ever we need to find ways to build back our communities, one neighborhood at a time. This Tuesday, Alicia Parker and her team brought this idea to NYC's town center, Rock Center. They invited those that worked in the neighborhood to come, eat + and have fun right in front of 30 Rock. Employees from Lazard, Christie's, Tishman Speyer, NBCUniversal and more joined together to break bread. AND it was magical. ❤️ gathering with NBCU current + former employees. COMING UP: - J Anthony Duval is doing one in Harlem, NYC 9/28 - Wendy Lyons Chrostek + Kelly Sisney are doing one in Kansas City, 9/28 - We, NYCNext are doing one in Chelsea, NYC 10/6 - There is one being planned for SF + LA - Venu Gupta is planning one in Chicago OTHERS: - Debra Jack has done this now for 2 years in Cloverdale, CA - Gretchen Sloan did one this year in San Carlos, CA - Patrick Bernard just did one in Paris (yr 7) Want to start a community table in your neighborhood? I recently listened to a sermon delivered by Pastor Tudor Bismark, where he reflected on how good things lead to greater things. Essentially, don't think you've reached your peak; if you've experienced good, you're on your way to GREATER! He explained it with examples like: - David killing Goliath: a good thing. - David becoming King: a great thing. - Elijah raising the widow's son: a good thing. - Elisha receiving Elijah's mantle: a great thing. The sermon left me shouting and reflecting! Witnessing churches earn over $90k through ChurchSpace good thing! Witnessing that same church’s community changed a GREAT thing! Two pastor’s kids launching the next industry disruptor that will redefine space and community is GOOD THING! Storytellers like Ebony Flake transcribing the why and heart behind ChurchSpace and its dedication to reshaping communities through space, for millions of readers to know, learn, and support, a GREAT thing! Teaming up with the absolute best team and cofounder ever Emmanuel B. 🎉absolute GREAT thing! In fact, you reading and sharing this article is an even GREATER thing! Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/eFTEtf8y Ps. You’re on your way to greater🤩

Building Thriving Neighborhoods Through Unlikely Collaboration At Lift Orlando, our mission is simple: To strengthen neighborhoods so people can thrive. Achieving that mission requires something not so simple. We bring together voices that might not traditionally collaborate. Our work is built on an unlikely but essential partnership: The deep wisdom of neighborhood residents and the strategic influence of business leaders. One side brings lived experience, resilience, and a vision for their community. The other brings resources, connections, and the capacity to scale solutions. Together, we create something greater than the sum of our parts: A movement toward generational cycles of prosperity while honoring the dignity of those we serve. Through collaboration, we’ve transformed vacant lots into vibrant community assets, connected families to opportunities, and built pathways for children to grow up with hope and return with joy. True impact happens when we listen first, align our strengths, and work together for the greater good. How about you? “Are you building unlikely alliances to drive lasting change? P.S. If you’re inspired to be part of the work of Lift Orlando let's connect. Because when we come together, everyone thrives. (Below is a picture taken in 2015 with neighbors, supporters and board members when we joined Purpose Built Communities)

Proud NeuDICE moment! 🐥 It's been over a year since Amerie Rose introduced me to Tony through Plymouth Social Enterprise Network. Today he knocked on the window of Shed 752 at The Plot and held up this photo of his workshop! Tony is a Living Lab member and has been regularly joining our monthly sessions at Nudge Community Builders' Union Corner. Living Labs are a space where neurodivergent people's lived experience is listened to, believed, and given enough time and space for action to happen. During our labs problems are shared, solutions considered but neuronormative expectations are diffused. Tony's problem: get a supply of pallets to the workshop. NeuDICE community solution: monthly labs and weekly Tuesday check-ins carefully balanced expectations and accountability. Excited to see Tony's workshop develop in 2025!

In case you missed it during #VolunteersWeek, we put the spotlight on the fantastic work of our Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders map team. This project began with our very first hackathon, an exciting Volunteers Assemble activity at the Tech for Good Summit that set the stage for our team’s innovative work. "within the projects, you can only make data visually useful if there's enough data to do that. So I think there was a huge learning curve for the original team as to, setting out that minimum spec side of things. You can't magic something out of nothing." Now that The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Museum have the tool, they have been receiving a large volume of interest from its global community and local history society groups, who have been researching those Argylls who served and are wanting to share the service data, which will be added to the map. They also plan to install an interactive Regimental service map terminal (touch screen) in its Affiliations Gallery. If you haven't heard yet...Milwaukee Founders Community is now Midwest Founders Community! What started as some simple founder-to-founder invitations to get together for coworking and happy hour back in the summer of 2021, and then quickly evolved into a founders only group chat, has now grown into somewhat of an accelerator/navigator for founders of all kinds. It's developed into operating on an informal "curriculum of community" that’s being simultaneously taught, learned, and tested by a conceptual classroom of entrepredoers. Like most startup/founder communities, MFC offers events (https://lnkd.in/gu5CAjbP). What’s special is that these events are created and hosted by the founders who see the value in the event and take it upon themselves to bring it into existence (with the community's support, of course). This approach to growth/operations has resulted in what I think is pretty close to regional PMF, in the sense that MFC’s lead curators are to the point of feeling more pull from those in the community than we are pushing what’s been built. It seems that founders are receiving the uniquely decentralized strategy a bit differently than the common community call-to-action to “get involved.” Several founders (and new MFC curators) have taken the call-to-action as not only an opportunity to get involved & help others, but perhaps more enticingly, as an opportunity to build something that gets them out of the day-to-day grind on their own company, if even for just a few hours a month. It’s why I think MFC’s event offering has grown significantly beyond the popular FOUNDER/FEST experience & now includes events to help founders: 💸 learn more about & connect with investors (#FounderFunderForum) 📈 learn more about & connect with customers (#SaaSClub) 🏕 disconnect from the grind to deeply connect with themselves & other founders (#MidwestFoundersRetreat) ♀feel safe & supported while navigating the challenges faced by female entrepreneurs (#LesFemmes) 💡 discuss, discover, workshop & test new product ideas (#ProductMarketRiff) 💻 build with AI-powered tech & tools in a casual, no pressure environment(#MilwaukeeGPT) 🗣 launch their startup idea with a formal, on-stage pitch for microgrant funds (#Launchpad) 🤓 learn from expert resource providers about nuanced aspects of the founder journey (#HowTo) -- Recordings are here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gfnu5fG8 And there’s still more being built by founders who have answered the call to become MFC builders and lead curators! We’re super proud of the new brand, website, and event offerings, so we’d love for you to check it out, sign up for the free founder membership and get yourself to the events that fit your needs as a founder. Maybe I’ll see ya at this week’s Product/Market Riff or next week’s FOUNDER/FEST! #midwestfounders #founderscommunity #founders #startups #entrepreneurs #startupcommunity #midwest
We are so proud to announce the rollout of our new website and with it, our new name: Midwest Founders Community! We started as a community of Milwaukee-based founders looking to challenge the status quo and build the future. We’re still focused on that mission, but now, we’re opening ourselves up to new growth, welcoming founders from all over the Midwest! We’re so excited to expand our reach and see what is next on the horizon as we grow together as a community. Check out our updated website here: https://lnkd.in/gx-4t2K5

Atlanta’s South Downtown is undergoing a facelift — due in part to Atlanta Ventures investment into the neighborhood — aiming to turn 10 city blocks and more than 50 buildings into an innovation district for living, working and playing. Owner David Cummings says Atlanta Tech Village is the ‘anchor’ of the community, along with legacy businesses like Friedman’s Shoes, who has called this neighborhood home since 1929 — 95 years. Now, ahead of the 2026 World Cup, efforts to transform the neighborhood are in full swing, as millions of visitors will pass through en route to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in what Cummings calls “The Grand Opening Party” for South Downtown. For business owners and those who work in the community, security is a top concern to attract more Atlantans back into the neighborhood, full-time.
