How bad is bad when someone mispronounces your name? One of the more popular videos I’ve posted to my Instagram started off as an impassioned plea, but I had no expectations that the message would be resonant across audiences. As somebody whose name has been mispronounced at important work events, and whose name has been shown but not said in popular media (side-eyes Team Drew Barrymore), I’m now over it. I know this won’t sit right with all of you. I know this is a controversial take, but hear me out, and in turn, I’d love to hear what you think. Let's just understand that people will never be able to pronounce most names 100% correctly because the languages they grew up speaking do not contain the sounds in our names. In such cases, I think it’s the effort that counts–and the willingness to listen, try again, and grow, to accept criticism without taking offense. My stance is that if somebody cannot pronounce my name correctly but is respectful and has a deep understanding of cultures, I’ll give them a pass. It’s more important to me that they respect my thought processes, my beliefs, and knowledge systems, than it is that they can hit the dental -ti part of my name the way those who speak Hindi, my mother tongue, can. I’d like to qualify this by saying I do think that cultures of color need to take up more space. People make such an effort to pronounce names within ‘superior’ or elitist cultures correctly (yes, we all know I’m talking about the French) and the same efforts should be paid to communities of color. This post is certainly not to let mispronunciation—out of carelessness, ignorance, or intention to create a power dynamic—off the hook. I think that’s a better deal. 👇 Girls are more likely to be attracted to you when you text them like this… 1. Make more statements, not just questions Bombarding her with questions will make it feel like an interrogation. 2. Use Emojis Wisely A smile or wink is great for adding emphasis or being flirtatious. However, using them in every other sentence can be overkill and distracting from what you’re trying to say. 3. Don’t Flood Her With Texts Replying with three texts for every one she sends shows you’re too eager and too invested. 4. Keep Things Light Don’t get too personal — things can feel extra heavy over text. Get to know each other in-person or over the phone where it’ll be more meaningful. 5. Start Flirting With Her Make fun of her for watching Gilmore Girls or even playfully accuse her of trying to seduce you. #textingwomen #flirtingtips #mensdatingadvice #attractingwomen

One of Chinese culture think name can efficiently impact our personality and life,I think here is the evidency. This time you can reassured watching this video cuz the English subtitle is translate in elaborately. Here's the subtitle: What a coincidence! Ladies and Gentlemen! I suddenly realized that the names of a couple of US presidential candidates are too fit, fitting to their personality! Donald Trump. Remind me of Donald Duck, And Trump still has the meaning of loud farting and trumpet sound. Trump does look like Donald Duck playing the trumpet, funny and loud. The name Harris. I immediately thought of the word harry, which has the meaning of constantly annoying and tormenting someones. Then a sentence came to mind, Harris harris the American legally with her laugh and freebie. too graphic! Joe Biden. First of all, Bidens is an Asteraceae Ghost Needle, which I understand to be a kind of chrysanthemum(In China it analogy of asshole cuz the figure of them are like each other), did anyone immediately worry about his adult diapers? And Joe Biden, although we the translation as 乔拜登, but I believe many people should privately call him 小比登(kind of meanning of little frankie,小 sound like joe,比登 sound like biden). And finally, Hilary. I don't even want to talk about it, everyone immediately thinks of Hilarious, ridiculously, as a promoter of LGBT, this woman's life does seem like a joke. Why is it so coincidental that the names of these people increasingly make me think the world is just a program!
Name can really impact our personality!

The meaning of the word Karen has changed a lot lately. I imagine the Karen's of the world are none to happy about it (no irony meant there) and would insist that Karen does not mean the things it is being used to mean. But words (including names) are collectively owned, their meanings decided upon by their use (not their use dictated by their meanings). Other words (identity markers) shift regularly, to give examples from current debate: What it means to be a woman, what it means to be British (or any other national identity for that matter). When people get upset about these shifts they often attack the group they feel are doing the shifting. This doesn't achieve the goal they set out to achieve. This film points to an alternative appraoch to these identity debates. https://lnkd.in/gvwTT-eV #phdlife #Phdsurvival #writingup #thesiswriting #identity #nationalidentity #GenderIdentity #IdentityPolitics #IdentityCrisis #religiousidentity #SexualIdentity #identitychallenge

Something had manifested along the way that wasn’t genuinely me. Once it became cemented in the social hierarchy of middle school, I didn’t have the tools to break free at that time. The shy girl label was holding me back. I was holding myself back by accepting it as part of my identity. By adopting this label, others treated me accordingly, but it didn't reflect my true self. Being seen as a shy girl meant I was expected to be silent, not raise my voice, rarely offer ideas and solutions, wait patiently for my turn, and always put others’ needs before my own. As a result, my opportunities to develop social skills were limited. It took me years to shed the need for external permission and approval. I needed a long time to regain my social confidence, embrace my authenticity, and step into my full power. Done sharing. Now it’s your turn. Have you ever felt an aspect of your identity has held you back? Share your story below! 👇 PS: You do not need to endure years and years of carrying around a label that does not reflect your true self. At the end of August 2024, I'm hosting a unique webinar, "Chapter Changes and Conscious Labeling for Charisma". Stay tuned for updates or dm me for more info. #charisma #labeling #consciousselflabeling #newchapterinlife

What's in a name!!! As a kid, I didn't like my first name. I had 3 classmates with the same first name at school and felt it was just too common. I didn't like it because my name literally means music but I can't hold a tune for the life of me. My dad used to say, "what's in a name, you make your name", but as a child I only felt annoyed at his words. However, once I began working, did I truly start understanding and believing on his advice. I take pride that my name is a reflection of my attitude and accomplishments. It stands for the mistakes I have made and my learnings to overcome challenges. Most people I work with make a genuine effort to pronounce my name correctly and I am thankful for that. I try to practice the same everytime I meet a new person with an unfamiliar name. My name is my identity and when you pronounce or spell it incorrectly multiple times, it shows that you do not respect me. Once is a mistake, twice is ignorance, the third time says you don'tcare. My name maybe foreign to you, but it is quite simple to write and pronounce compared to many I have come across. Inclusion isn't just about big initiatives to post on social media, every little step matters. A little effort to spell someone's name correctly won't cost you anything but will definitely gain you some respect and camaraderie. #names #powerofnames #diversity #smallstepstoinclusion #diversityandinclusion #linkedincreator

A pronoun is a word used to refer to either the people who are talking (like “I” or “you”) or a person being talked about in the third person (like “she/her,” “he/him,” and “they/them”). Since some pronouns are gendered (“she/her” and “he/him”), it is important to be intentional about the way we use pronouns as we all work to create as inclusive an environment as possible. I once was told that I am a role model for a girl. 😍 I was in high school, I could barely shape my identity.🔹 And when that girl said that when she’s my age, she wanted to be like me, my heart dropped. ❣️ I had an « aha » 💡moment: I have to watch my behaviour because this girl is watching me with admiration.👀 That was the first time when I understood the power of awareness and reputation. We influence others by our examples. So make sure you are aware of your actions, as there are people copying you. 🔍 So be a good example for others. #admiration #lookupto #personalbranding #reputation
