Did you know your trash and recycling cans need to have their lids fully closed for the city to ensure they get emptied? 🙉 While sometimes cans with slightly open lids still get serviced, there are instances where overflowing cans get skipped entirely. The reason is simple: during pick-up, if the lid isn’t shut, bags and trash can easily fly out, causing a big mess. To avoid this, make sure your cans aren’t overflowing and the lids are securely closed when you place them at the curb. Help keep the streets clean and ensure your trash gets collected! 💯 #canmonkey #cantocurb #closedlids

Stringed Lights SHOULD NOT Be Disposed of In Your Recycling Bin! Do you have an abundance of holiday lights that are burned out and unusable? If so, you can SIMPLY PUT THEM IN YOUR REGULAR TRASH. Stringed lights in a recycling bin will cause a problem at the recycling facility and are potentially hazardous to those working in the facility as they become wrapped around equipment and need to be manually cut off. Unusable lights and any other garbage placed in your regular trash will be used as fuel to create electricity when it is brought to the York County Resource Recover Center by your hauler. All of York County’s municipal curbside trash is combusted and turned into alternative power. Your old holiday lights used to create electricity, who knew? Waste-to-Energy: working for York County. Maybe you caught the news that NYC is going to start putting its trash in trashcans? We did, but we still had questions. So Grace Snelling called up Joshua Goodman from the NYC Department of Sanitation to have a conversation about what's really happening with the city's trash. Here's everything you need to know about how NYC plans to "containerize" the 16 billion pounds of trash the city produces each year. My favorite takeaways: -NYC has long had troubles with trash. In the 19th century the city was littered with horse carcasses ( 😬 ) because there was no waste management plan. -The city produces 16 billion pounds of trash every year. 16 BILLION POUNDS. Every day, residents create 24 million pounds of trash, in case you were curious. -The city's new plan to put trash in containers requires a new custom truck that can lift up the big containers that high-density commercial + residential buildings will use. NYC had to design the trucks from scratch. You can read all of their conversation here: https://lnkd.in/e_xGJYdA

Waste and Recycling Workers Week is a great time to show your appreciation by serving those who serve our communities. Throughout the week of June 17th, join us in thanking your garbage collection providers and all those who work in the waste industry. Here are a few things you can do to show your support - Join the Recycling Effort - Let’s take some ownership for our garbage contributions. Consider ways you can reduce, recycle and reuse the things being thrown in the garbage from your own home. Call to Say, “Thank you” - It’s easy to complain when things are not done right. Consider calling your local provider with a word of thanks and appreciation for all the weeks they do their job well! Help Them Lift It! - Got a big pile after your spring cleaning efforts? How about meeting them at the curb and helping them lift it in. A little kindness goes a long way to show we are aware of their efforts. #SansomEquipment #WasteRecyclingWorkersWeek #Sanitation #PublicWorks #Recycling #Waste #SanitationWorkers #GarbageMan

Keep Trash and Recycling Where it Should be, In The Cart! As we know, wind plays a major role when it comes to trash and recycling collection services. During windy events, collection routes take much longer due to knocked over carts, and knocked over carts or open cart lids produces littered streets and waterways. The SafeWaste Auto-Release Cart Lid Wind Latch eliminates this issue at the curb and keeps all trash and recycling contents in the two wheeled cart. ·Improves cart wind stability at the curb. ·Controls spillage during collection (latch auto-releases when the cart is inverted into the truck body). ·Controls the cart lid from opening at the curb during windy events. ·Prevents collection workers from exiting the truck to pick up litter and knocked over carts. ·Collection workers are able to service carts faster resulting in improved efficiency.

To this day, I love the free wheelie bin initiative provided to landed houses. I remember since my house got the wheelie bin, it's easier to separate domestic trash and garden trash and to plan when to throw the trash outside so that we can follow the trash collection schedule. Along with the trash disposal rules, fines were also introduced for those who break the rules such as throwing bulk/garben trash into wheelie bins. I hope that the fines imposed on those who does not follow the trash disposal rules are more actively implemented. This is because there are still irresponsible people who will slip bulk/garden trash into the wheelie bins. This fine is one of the ways to instill discipline and teach the community about smart trash disposal. It's just that one of the annoying things that can't be avoided for me is that some people are lazy to separate the garbage or they are not alert to the schedule, they choose to throw the mixed trash into other house's wheelie bin when the trash collection day has passed. Maybe it's because they don't know what is the purpose of the wheelie bin and when is the exact garbage collection schedule. I hope Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd can do initiatives such as sending messages to the community via telegram bots or any messaging apps for the domestic/garden/bulk waste collection schedule to serve as a visual reminder.
