Caught in the making! A study by Swedish researchers published in The Lancet Microbe shows how an individual infected simultaneously with two SARS-CoV-2 variants led to the formation of a recombinant virus. In October 2023, the researchers used NGS sequencing to identify a patient co-infected with an early Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) and a second virus from the BA.2.86.1 lineage. Another patient, who was hospitalized in the same ward for eight days with the co-infected individual, later became infected with a recombinant chimera of both viruses. New data on our variant-proof XVR013m antibody has demonstrated its exceptional neutralization activity against the #Covid19 variant JN.1, the parental strain of the most dominant variants currently circulating globally. XVR013m is a heavy chain-only antibody that targets a unique and highly conserved epitope in the S2 subunit of the spike protein.
