A really interesting read from CBC News about the safety and wellbeing of journalists covering disasters - especially ones that are unpredictable. While there is certainly credibility in being on site - and the ability to see things not captured on camera and speak with people in real time - with technology there are ways of covering disasters like wildfires and hurricanes that come with less risk. Would you feel differently if the video footage was from a drone with voiceovers/commentary coming from a studio, presumably from an expert or local reporter? How can comms professionals help journalists to safely tell stories? #journalism #pr #media #mediarelations https://lnkd.in/gZXqS-Q2?

If a BH facility's CEO did the COO's job, their growth would be stunted. 📉 A cinematographer excels at his craft when a producer is on set, resulting in higher quality and quantity of footage. This translates to more powerful video content with a greater chance of convincing prospective patients to choose your facility. If you're looking to elevate your facility's brand voice and drive census through impactful video production, comment below, DM me, or book a 'Trust Check-Up' call through my profile. Our 3-4 person film crew, including a producer, will come to your facility wherever you are in the U.S. (as long as it's not during a hurricane 🌀🙈) #addiction #mentalhealth #behavioralhealth #addictiontreatment #videoproduction

New research released this week shows that during Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Francine, the main information source for residents in a time of crisis — and the most trusted — is local broadcast television. The study, which surveyed over 3,000 respondents, unearthed several compelling insights that underscore the pivotal role of broadcast TV. The study found that 76% of those who use station websites/apps also consume local TV news on television, highlighting the complementary role these platforms play in viewers' media diets. As several of our studies have shown – it's not "either or," it's "and." An ancillary finding is that among its viewers, local broadcast TV news is the number one source for news, not just local news, but all news in general. And why is that? Local TV stations have cultivated strong brands over decades, rooted in their ability to deliver news that is not only relevant but deeply connected to the communities they serve. Half of local news viewers select it as being the most involved in their local community. Eight out of ten, specifically cited “I want information that pertains to the area I live in” as the top reason for watching local TV. Local broadcast TV news is the lifeblood of local communities- everyday, and especially during severe weather. It is unique in its ability to deliver news from a local perspective, foster community engagement, and build enduring trust. #WeAreBroadcasters #ThereWhenYouNeedUsMost

When people ask me why I decided to get back in the news business, the answer is simple: To help make a difference. One of the ways I enjoy doing that is by what I like to call "adult show and tell." There's nothing like digging into a timely topic and crunching some numbers, and then presenting those numbers through informational graphics. It's a storytelling technique that takes the viewers beyond the headlines; answering the so-called why factor. As in, why should I (the average viewer) care? At KTTC News, we call this "digging deeper" and when it comes together, it's a rewarding feeling. Gray Television https://lnkd.in/g543MivX

New Post: This international emergency radio is on sale for $150 - https://lnkd.in/gYtFb9wR - TL;DR: As of Feb. 8, the Eton Elite Executive AM-FM Shortwave Radio is on sale for just $149.99 — that's almost $100 off the regular price of $249.We all know that the weather can be unpredictable. This is why many families keep an emergency kit ready to go. Usually, this consists of things like batteries, flashlights, candles, and matchsticks. Others take it a step further and add in some jugs of water and camping lanterns. Others still will keep a decent portion of canned or packaged food set aside as well. But everyone really could benefit from a radio. There have been some wonky weather patterns occurring as of late. For instance, according to Climate.gov, in 2023, as Hurricane Hilary approached the West Coast, "The National Hurricane Center issued its first-ever tropical storm watch for parts of southern California." These are the scenarios in which an Eton Elite Executive AM-FM Shortwave Radio comes in handy. For a limited time, it's on sale for $149.99. When the power goes out and the cellular networks are down, you'll need a way to hear what's happening. This Eton Elite Executive international radio gives every radio wavelength possible, including AM (MW), FM with RDS, longwave, and shortwave in the U.S. or abroad. And if those aren't enough to give you peace of mind, the Eton also receives VHF aircraft and single sideband frequencies. While it may sound complicated, it's made to be easy to use. With a precise digital tuner (automatic or manual), a reset/lock button, and an easy-view LCD, even the most intense preppers will feel good about their communication prospects should the power go out in an emergency.Pick up this radio and leather case now and have it ready to go should you ever need it.Don't miss the Eton Elite Executive AM-FM Shortwave Radio while it's on sale for just $149.99 (reg. $249).StackSocial prices subject to change. Regarding the flooding from Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, Georgie & SC,, the situation is critical, the death toll is vast and the behavior of the Biden-Harris Administration and FEMA is criminal. Below is a detailed report from one of the survivors near Chimney Rock, NC, which has been obliterated. https://lnkd.in/ege98TjA From: G Date: Thu, Oct 3, 2024 at 7:21 PM Subject: Wm Mount 3Oct24 To: M William Mount (today) 3 Oct CRITICAL ! ~ EVERYONE MUST READ & DISSEMINATE EVERYWHERE !!! NEXT COULD BE YOU !!! @jamestriplett790 2 hours ago This needs to go far and wide to put pressure on the government to do the right thing and save lives. This evening, from a Peak Prosperity member to me via PM at my site: Them: I can’t post this online because it’s not quite public yet, but government officials (FEMA) had a town meeting with all of the residents of chimney rock and basically told them the town was being bulldozed, bodies and all and the land was being seized by the federal government they would not be able to move back and basically their homes the ones that were standing were no longer theirs and the federal government owned it all. I don’t know what crazy play for land this is, but there’s a lot of conspiracy about lithium mines and let me just tell you, as someone who lives in Charlotte and has friends who live in the area of Western North Carolina, they are not being helped and this is actually being a stand down operation by federal government Me: What the heck…? That's quite disturbing. Is this first-hand, second-hand, or more distant info? Them: Our friend owns an Airbnb in Chimney Rock. They had a town meeting yesterday and someone from the federal government told them all of those things in the town meeting, but doesn’t want the information getting out. Also, they are not picking up the bodies. The stench of the bodies everywhere is insane and for some reason, the government does not want to pick up the bodies. One pastor of a local church was going to door to door delivering water and they changed their delivery request to body bags because so many of the homes that they’ve gone to have needed body bags, we’re trying to keep the body count. They’re not picking up the bodies. They don’t wanna identify the bodies and they’re just leaving them to rot in the streets. Me: I…can't…even. I'm stunned. This is beyond anything I could have imagined even very recently. You always pick up and bury the dead. It's what humans do. They are violating every possible custom … on purpose.. In the wake of catastrophic flooding in #NorthCarolina and #Tennessee, I'm seeing many on social media remarking at what they perceive to be a "blackout" lack of news coverage insofar as the full scope of the mind-boggling disaster unfolding in the Appalachian area. As syndicated and major media news reporters have hit the ground during the past 24 hours, the gut-wrenching stories and visuals are starting to come in across all the major news stations nationwide, but bear in mind this perception in news coverage disparity between social media and traditional media reflects the sheer number of people posting their own experiences en masse, versus singular broadcast and print reporters preparing their stories for their respective audiences hindered by everything from impassable roads, to widespread internet and power outages, to lack of gasoline to even get to the damage epicenters. It's a given that those most deeply affected want to see more of an emphasis on their plight, but from a business-of-media perspective, viewers' perception of a "news blackout" also shows the importance of local journalism. Obviously, local newspapers' and media offices in the affected areas have likely been heavily damaged and reporters working for them scattered and cut off from normal communications, but on a deeper level, we are also witnessing the outcome of years of local media decimation by corporate consolidation and internet cannibalization. And, of course, the resulting trickle of local stories certainly translate into fewer national pickups from local affiliates. These days, reporters often scour X (formerly Twitter) or other social platforms for videos or photos they can use to illustrate their stories or take their own (like the post below by Hannah Goetz of WSOC-TV Eyewitness News), since the luxury of being able to take a dedicated photographer along with you as a reporter have long been gone. Overall from a #publicrelations and #communications perspective, the situation notably shows the value of social media for getting your message out during a disaster or any other circumstance in which access to local media may be curtailed. Taking advantage of opportunities to get your message out quickly and organically are also important. For example, witness the viral AquaFence social media clip posted by Tampa General Hospital that catapulted the unusual product into a national flood-control must-have overnight. See #AquaFence in action here (reported by Josh Benson at WFLA-TV News Channel 8 / WTTA-TV The CW Tampa Bay): https://lnkd.in/e3gSpZKD #media #socialmedia #disaster #PR #Hurricane #Helene #Floods
