Entering the workforce after graduating Uni can be daunting, especially when you join a traditional organisation. Wandering around the careers fair at The University of Sheffield 2 years ago, so many of the companies I thought I was interested in had multiple levels of hierarchy and the path to success would have seen several years of trying to impress those in higher up positions to try and gain a promotion. Since joining Hatmill, I've found that it doesn't have to be that way and the team around me are genuinely more than willing to help when I need it. I have the same job title as those that have worked in senior positions for several years, and I know I can call them to ask for help and they're more than happy to do so. Sheffield University Management School gave me a great understanding of Operations and Management and if I hadn't used their careers service and gone to the Careers Fair, I wouldn't have found Hatmill. If you've just finished Uni or are entering your final year in September and want to become a consultant, don't limit your options to a well known consultancy where you will be expected to fight amongst your cohort to achieve a promotion. If you see Hatmill at a Careers Fair, speak to the team about what we do and more importantly, how we operate in a culture that fosters growth and is recognised as a Great Place to Work. G’day connection, LOL, or Learning Over Lunch, serves up a monthly feast of knowledge and camaraderie with Velesto Energy Berhad ‘s Senior Management Team. Picture this: 15 employees from diverse backgrounds, positions, and divisions gather for a luncheon rendezvous with one of the company's leaders. Yesterday, it was Mr. Chong Eu Jin-the VP of IPM, taking the helm. The vibe? Electric! Mr. Eu Jin dazzled with insights on integrity, emphasizing its pivotal role for every employee. He delved into the importance of aligning KPIs and initiatives with the company's grand vision and mission, leaving everyone nodding in agreement. But it wasn't all business! One curious participant couldn't resist asking about Mr. Eu Jin's passion for motorbikes and his penchant for nature. The room buzzed with laughter and anecdotes, making the session as lively as a bustling marketplace. And let's talk about the spread! From savory chicken rice to decadent desserts, the culinary delights added an extra dash of flavor to the already enriching experience. At the end of the session, every participants were presented with a box of Ajwa dates, in celebration of Ramadhan month next week. Fantastic Work at Kraftværket, Denmark! 🎉 Over the past two days, my www.allLearners.org colleague Rob Perrée and I have had the privilege of working with the dedicated team at Kraftværket in Denmark, a remarkable space providing a fresh start for young people aged 12-18. These are youth for whom traditional schooling was unable to offer the safety and flexibility they needed to thrive. For some, it has been over two years since they last engaged in formal education or felt a sense of belonging within a learning community. But at Kraftværket, things are changing! 💪 This summer, Kraftværket began supporting these resilient students, helping them reintegrate into an environment tailored to their unique needs and growth. During our time together, we had the chance to spend a morning with both the students and staff, gaining a deeper understanding of their challenges and progress. Following this, we introduced the allLearners Building Blocks Toolkit to the staff. Afterward, we zoomed in on a specific building block: Design Principles. These principles are rooted in Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development and Ryan & Deci’s Self-Determination Theory and were instrumental in helping the team recognize and make visible the growth they have achieved with their students. ✨ The key message? Take a step back and reflect: “What have we already achieved with these young people?” 🔍 Too often, we get caught up in what’s left to be done and forget to honor the progress made. 🏆 Today, we collaborated on structuring how the staff can work more systematically on fostering student growth. Through the allLearners Design Principles, we explored ways to enhance motivation, deepen learning, and celebrate each milestone. Together, we’ve begun building an even stronger foundation for these youth to not just succeed academically but also grow as happy, autonomous, and engaged contributors to their community. 🌱🌍 Kudos to the Kraftværket team for their passion and commitment to making a difference. One of the most underrated business/life skills is waking up and doing the work, even when you don’t want to.
