STARTUP STORY: From Sigma Six to SaaS Solutions, Peak3 (formerly ZA Tech) CEO Xuanbi Bill SONG, a former chemical engineer turned insurtech pioneer, shares the journey that led him to launch his company - now a leading provider of digital solutions for the global insurance industry. Song describes life as an entreprenuer in the insurtech space as a steep learning curve, and says focussing on core aims has been critical in scaling a successful business. He says: "We always had the vision and ambition to be the first true SaaS core across P&C, life and health insurance. But in pursuing this vision, we tried to do too much at the same time: a bit of “everything, everywhere, all at once”. "This was too much for us as an organisation and team to handle and we started to prioritise ruthlessly, and while operating in an agile fashion, we work more sequentially now [rather than] than in parallel." My research shed light on how insurers are navigating the rapidly evolving insurance landscape through the lens of Exponential Excellence based on the principles of the book ‘Exponential Organizations 2.0’. ✨ 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 (𝗠𝗧𝗣): This focused on the core vision and purpose driving these companies. How clearly are they defining their missions to stay relevant and future-proof? 🔍 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗘: How efficient are their external operations? Are they leveraging a flexible, on-demand workforce? How effectively are they communicating with stakeholders, utilizing shared assets, and adopting gamification to engage customers? 💡 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗦: What internal processes fuel their resilience? Here, I evaluated the internal dynamics—KPIs, decentralization of decision-making, and risk-taking cultures—that enable these insurers to stay agile, innovative, and resilient. This collaborative work with M Ivan Faizal, MM, FSAI, AAAIK and my former student Carina Gunawan explores an innovative approach to modern challenges in the insurance industry. Title: Adapting the Insurance Pricing Model for Distribution Channel Expansion Using the Bayesian Generalized Linear Model 💡 What’s it about? The insurance landscape is evolving rapidly with the rise of new distribution channels. To stay competitive, insurers must rethink their pricing strategies. Our research introduces a Bayesian Generalized Linear Model (GLM) to adjust insurance pricing dynamically, incorporating new distribution channels while leveraging existing pricing models as a baseline. 🔍 Key findings: Data-driven insights: Bayesian GLM allows insurers to integrate prior knowledge and adapt effectively. Superior performance: Our method consistently outperformed traditional approaches in estimating accurate pricing. Hello, I recently completed a short-term project at GoSure.AI under the guidance of industry mentor Bharath Bhushan K Reddy, Co-founder, and Chief Growth Officer at Gosure.ai, and faculty mentor daitri tiwary, assistant professor at Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH). My project was to generate quality leads of C-level executives, primarily CFO/CROs of Managing General Agents or Agencies based in the USA. This project wasn't just about leads; it was a deep dive into MGA outreach strategies. I honed data collection & analysis skills, explored online lead gen tools (LinkedIn, Apollo.io, Lusha, email finders), and prioritized ethical data practices. The methodology that I used was pretty clear and crisp. Let's dive in:- - Leveraged a combo of government resources and industry directories to build a comprehensive MGA list. - Segmented the list by insurance segments (P&C, Speciality lines etc.) for targeted outreach. - Defined a structure for capturing essential MGA and executive details (name, title, email). - Verified data accuracy through email verification tools and cross-referencing. What I learned during the project was - - Data collection, categorization, analysis, and management - Utilizing a multi-tool approach - Understood and implemented ethical data collection procedures, avoiding scraping and prioritizing compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA.
