We have not given up – and I invite you to walk towards that future with us together.’ –Zaki Haidari Get the video or podcast of our first Kaldor Centre Oration, with Zaki and Kate Eastman AM SC. My new edition of the podcast about the life of Ukrainians in Britain. In previous editions of the podcast, I said that she came to Petersfield in June 2022. All the difficulties experienced by emigrants and refugees from the experience of a Ukrainian woman – you can listen here in Ukrainian and read the translation in English, although this edition does have a large English language section. https://lnkd.in/dVkeaGN8 What are the most important questions Ukrainians are addressing to the authorities? Ukrainians living in Petersfield have many problems now. More than 200 families from Ukraine live in Hampshire. One of the problems is that the war in Ukraine continues and some Ukrainians need safety and protection. And for this, it is necessary to find a group of people (family or single citizens) who are ready to accept Ukrainians. You can apply here https://lnkd.in/dzbHEVUd Next, listen to the “Cold Coffee” podcast in Ukrainian and read the English translation in the attached file. https://lnkd.in/dWVMipbQ Iryna Chupylka

New Podcast Episode: Building South Africa Together In Episode 8, we examine the Department of Home Affairs’ claim that refugees are a burden to South Africa. But is this narrative accurate? Despite their small numbers, refugees and asylum seekers often make significant positive contributions to the economy. They help address unemployment and poverty and play a vital role in growing South Africa’s economy. We can no longer accept the rhetoric that refugees are the problem—they are, in fact, part of the solution. 🎧 Listen to Building South Africa Together here: https://lnkd.in/eSRfCymw Let’s challenge the status quo and start building a better future together. As the world grapples with increasing forced human migration because of conflicts in many countries, more and more human beings grapple with loss of a sense of belonging and identity in the countries where they have taken refuge. Taking refuge has its own long-winded journey. Many do not even know which countries they will land up in. As host countries open their doors and hearts and try their best to integrate the people who come lost, desolate and looking to just live with dignity, lacunas still remain. Giving a sense of belonging cannot be an AI (artificial intelligence) subject. It remains the purview of the human heart and how it can show compassion and empathy within the tight boxes of time and place. As the podcast series “Between the East and the West” continues hosting guests from Germany, Italy, USA, Canada, Egypt, Palestine, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Ethiopia, Norway, Netherlands, India, Switzerland, France, Britain, Ireland, Australia…and counting, my heart still bleeds when I have guests who speak of broken dreams, wistful hearts and fearful minds. And my heart still revs up with pride and solidarity when I see the strength of these souls who soldier on, lighting the way for many others. I take joy in bringing these voices to you…like the one of Ajmal Ramyar who was born and brought up in Afghanistan but now lives in Canada as a recent refugee. Ajmal serves as the Executive Director of Afghans for Progressive Thinking (APT in short), a youth-led non-profit organization in Afghanistan. APT has been at the forefront of addressing human rights crises and promoting girls' education. Ajmal also led the Afghan Youth Representative program to the United Nations, advocating for Afghan youth on both national and international platforms. After the Taliban's takeover in 2021, Ajmal relocated to Canada. There, he continues his efforts to empower Afghan women by connecting them with international mentors and advocating for their educational rights. You can hear his voice, his journey and that of Afghanistan in the link below: If you are curious about the whole series and why we do what we do, do check out the link in the first comment below. #peacebuilding #youth #afghanistan #humanitariancrisis #war #taliban #immigration #integration #canada #refugees #east #west

It's the American dream, which can also go horribly wrong for many people who are rejected at the border." —YDS New Testament scholar Yii-Jan Lin speaking on the new episode of our podcast, focused on #immigration ideology and the Book of Revelation.

1moAnyone who wants to understand the impact of Australia's awful policies towards refugees would benefit from listening to Zaki Haidari. His first hand experience of a terrifying journey to "safety, ended in years of limbo, separation from his loved ones for over 12 years, eventually getting the permanent protection every refugee fleeing persecution is owed. A powerful communicator, a tireless advocate.
