TimberBLDR Tops Out Jack’s Café at the Houston Zoo! 🌿🐘🦜 We’re thrilled to announce the completion of TimberBLDR's work on Jack’s Café at the Houston Zoo! This collaborative effort with Tellepsen (GC), Lake|Flato Architects, Walter P Moore Engineering, and Kalesnikoff Mass Timber Supply represents a stunning new chapter in sustainable design and functionality for the Zoo. Located between the Galápagos Islands Exhibit and the Elephant Habitat, Jack’s Café is the final phase of the Zoo’s Centennial Plan, seamlessly connecting the historic Reflecting Pool and Colonnade with the vibrant new McGovern Plaza. This 10,125-square-foot mass timber structure is much more than just a café – it’s an experience! Guests will enjoy outdoor dining, ice cream sales, restrooms, and, on the second floor, a breathtaking event space nestled among the heritage oak canopies with views overlooking the Galápagos Islands exhibit. Jack’s Café is designed with wildlife conservation and sustainability in mind. The exterior features bird-friendly glazing to protect local wildlife, while the building itself is targeting LEED Gold Certification and 4-Star Green Restaurant Certification. With a focus on conserving natural resources and reducing the Zoo’s carbon footprint, the café incorporates rainwater collection systems, durable low-carbon materials, and energy-efficient operations to support the Zoo’s mission to save wildlife. We’re proud to have played a role in bringing this visionary project to life, showcasing the beauty, strength, and sustainability of mass timber construction. Congratulations to the entire team on this incredible milestone – we can’t wait to see Jack’s Café inspire and serve guests for years to come! #TimberBLDR #MassTimber #SustainableDesign #HoustonZoo #JacksCafe #LEEDGold #Conservation #LakeFlato #WalterPMoore #Kalesnikoff #Tellepsen #GreenBuilding
