On this International Men's Day, we take a moment to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of men across all walks of life. From leading businesses to nurturing families, from shaping communities to breaking barriers, men play a critical role in driving positive change and innovation. Today is an opportunity to reflect on how far we've come, while acknowledging the work still needed to create a more equitable world for everyone. This year's theme invites us to focus on the importance of mental health, well-being, and positive role models. It's essential that we continue to encourage open conversations around emotional health, supporting one another and fostering environments where men feel empowered to be their authentic selves. Let’s also recognize the positive impact of mentorship and how the guidance of strong, compassionate leaders can transform lives. As we honor the men around us today, let’s commit to breaking down harmful stereotypes and building a society where all individuals—regardless of gender—can thrive without limitations. Here's to creating a future that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and the strength that comes from lifting each other up. Happy International Men's Day!

My former boss,Matthijs Nederveen would gather me every two weeks to reflect on our impact. In those moments, I dreaded the numbers, the facts, the cold measure of progress. In hindsight, I’ve come to love numbers and see it not as a burden, but as the quiet pulse of growth. A silent witness to the work we’ve done and the journey we’ve walked together. In the spirit of reflection, here is a glimpse into the heart of what my team and I have built over the past year: - We crafted and launched a bold youth centric, multi-country, multi-partner inclusive communications strategy that connects people across borders while staying true to a pan-African approach. - We gave life to the #WeCanWork brand, shaping its identity and weaving together every visual thread that communicates our identity. - We shared the Co-Creation Report, a powerful testament to a year of people-centered program design, rich with lessons and insights authored by Andera Delfyna and the We Can Work team read more ➡️https://lnkd.in/dh4VJNSH. - Through campaigns like Labor Day Campaign and the Mental Health Day Campaign, we reached over 50,000 people, amplifying conversations about dignified and fulfilling work for young persons with disabilities. - We hosted the #WeCanWork storytelling competition across seven African countries, receiving more than 270 submissions, arriving at 14 winners, and an awakening of what it truly means to challenge perceptions of ability while piloting a participatory approach to storytelling. - We co-created a monthly “SitRep” (situation report) with our programs team, a digital document that keeps us connected across the seven countries we serve. - I travelled to #Vienna Austria to visit Light for the World head office where I gave a presentation on “How to write about #Africa” to our global communications team. - Lastly, I had the incredible opportunity to meet with our partners from the Mastercard Foundation in #Ethiopia during the disability inclusion workshop to cross learn and co-create. As I look ahead, I walk with a deeper sense of confidence and curiosity. Time, they say, flies when you’re having fun and this year, it has felt just like that. Full of learning, full of growth, and full of moments that have shaped me more than I could have imagined. Here’s to #WeCanWork!

To mark International Women’s Day (https://lnkd.in/fKV58SF) on Friday the Parliamentary Counsel Office (New Zealand)is introducing one of our own wonderful wāhine each day this week. Our mahi (https://lnkd.in/gGwG5WpK) involves working with others to turn often complex policies into legislation that is fit for purpose, constitutionally sound, and accessible. We not only draft almost all legislation for Aotearoa, but also publish it. Today let’s meet 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 & 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿 Rebecca O'Connell. 𝗜𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗖𝗢 – 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? I go to punk rock gigs with my husband. We’ve just been to one in Australia and a few years ago we went to a punk music fest in the UK, where he is from. I love gardening - our house is on what used to be an orchard early last century and has fruit trees that date way back to then. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗖𝗢? I worked there on secondment and really enjoyed it. Later, when a permanent role came up, I applied. I’m in a great team. We all bring different strengths but collaborate a lot and I like working in the office for that reason – it's a great way to solve problems and get quick answers. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲? This is the first time I’ve worked in government. It's a small office and working in my area especially means I get to know everyone. People are friendly and there are great benefits, such as five weeks' annual leave, exercise classes, hearing and vision tests – and a great social club! 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸...? There’s a broad range of age groups of women and this brings different perspectives. The current Chief Parliamentary Counsel is a woman, and we have some strong female leaders – they're really approachable and this flows through our organisation. #InternationalWomensDay #iwd2024 #greatplacetowork #Legislation #GreatlawforNewZealand #GreatLawForNZ

Happy international Social Work Day 2024! it was great to join The Forum Organised today by CMHL with great inspirational speakers talking about the sense of identity and professional resilience required during those times characterised by complexities and divisions with fragmented systems, social inequalities driving even more severe economic disadvantage and compromised access to those already disadvantaged incl people with mental illness and their families. The qualities that social work beings as a profession with its strong human rights and advocacy focus create a good sense of foundation for the transformative change highlighted as a motto for this year's celebrations. The idea of transformative change emphasizes the need for social workers to adopt innovative, community- led approaches grounded in indigenous wisdom and harmonious co-existence with nature, which resonates with core values of social work. Our strong presence in that space and contributing towards " positive peace" through critical reflection and advocacy for more consolidated systemic interventions embedded in human rights and social justice principles are of invaluable importance in creating more collaborative and consumer-centered service system. “Buen vivir” everyone! , let's celebrate social work as profession that " stands up for what is right"😉😊 and does not shy away from challanges and complexities the modern world creates. #internationalsocialworkday2024 #socialwork #socialimpact #socialchange #socialjustice #socialawareness

Creating and Sharing Beautiful Connections: In the safe and open spaces we create, women come together with a shared desire to be stronger and more connected. These moments of unity and support are filled with heartfelt conversations, shared stories, and deep vulnerability. Empathy in Action: Women listen to each other’s struggles and triumphs, offering genuine support and understanding. Strength in Unity: There’s a powerful sense of solidarity as women stand together, empowering one another to face challenges and celebrate successes. Healing and Growth: The safe space allows for personal healing and growth, where women can explore their inner selves and embrace their journeys authentically. Transformative Connections: Bonds formed in these spaces often lead to lifelong friendships and a network of support that extends beyond the gatherings. These connections remind us that when women unite with a shared purpose of strengthening each other, incredible transformations happen, fostering a community of resilience, love, and empowerment. Im also working towards creating these spaces for men - I’ve seen the power of brotherhood and vulnerability when men feel the safe container to explore and I have seen first hand how much this is needed in community If this resonates with and you need a space to cultivate I’m hosting a weekend retreat to help start the journey Feel feel to reach out Details here Women’s Authentic Weekend Retreat in Oct https://lnkd.in/getx_Afd #StrongerTogether #WomenEmpowerment #HealingJourney #WomenSupportingWomen #AuthenticConnections #community

The average woman in the UK is online for 7.7 hours per day* (Doom scrolling before going to sleep anyone 👋🏽) Which begs the question: if we're spending this long on our devices each day, what are we missing out on? And what impact does fewer interactions in real life have on our health and wellbeing? Spoiler alert, the impact is...pretty terrible. ❌ a detrimental impact on our mental health and increased depression, anxiety & loneliness ❌ higher levels of stress ❌ a weakened immune system ❌ a reduction in our general satisfaction with life. Yesterday as part of a series of posts for Mental Health Awareness Week, I posted about the role movement plays in improving our mental health - and promised I would share just some of the powerful ways This Woman Runs now helps tens of thousands of women to move more, more often - to feel healthier and happier. And top of the list is the way we use digital connection as a genuine force for positive change - to bring women together in person, with others in their local area, for friendship and running. Digital as an enabler of IRL connection has been core to our DNA since Day 1 when I set up a Facebook group to try and organise the growing number of women wanting to run together under my fledgling Bristol based community This Mum Runs. Since then we've become pioneers in the community world in scaling consistently engaging digital spaces carefully designed to act as a catalyst to women meeting and running together "in real life". With 80 chapter based communities across the UK, in South Africa and New Zealand, each TWR playbook developed chapter is made up of: ✅ A closed digital community moderated by trained community leader volunteers and supported by a central communities team; ✅ Free, twice weekly runs organised and led by trained Run Angel volunteers ✅ Ad hoc and informal meet ups organised by community members The primary goal of our digital spaces is to seamlessly connect women to local organised runs AND with each other for more informal runs and meet ups. With 80% of women in our communities more active IRL than pre CoVid, and 90% of women saying it's a sense of real connection that has enabled this > ours is a powerful model that's enabling real change. If you want in on the magic of a TWR community for women in your area, we'd love to hear from you, a new cohort of community leader training is kicking off soon > https://lnkd.in/e8k8vCpi Ps More tomorrow on running in nature and the role it can play in healthier, happier lives... #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessweek #running #IRL #community Mind Sport England *Good Things Foundation Study, 2023
