Postponed childbearing can have important consequences for the mothers and, at a macro level, for the country in which they live. Research has primarily focused on the effect postponing fertility has on mothers’ labor market outcomes and on the total number of children a woman has in her lifetime. Most research finds that postponing the first birth raises a mother's labor force participation and wages but may have negative effects on overall fertility, especially in the absence of supportive family-friendly policies. https://lnkd.in/dXWbASm

Today, we celebrate International Women’s day.  What does being a woman actually mean and what distinguishes us from men? 1️⃣ SEX (biological differences) ♀️organs  ♀️hormones  ♀️chromosomes Are those differences causing the gender pay- and care gap?  Whilst pregnancy explains part of the gender pay gap, none of these factors actually lead to structural/ real disadvantages. What causes real, structural disadvantages are 2️⃣ GENDER LABELS: 🏷️ Attributes 🏷️ Expectations  🏷️ Roles 🏷️ Entitlements 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬: If we acknowledge that these concepts are “just” labels and constructs, we gain the power to deconstruct/ challenge and re-think them: How to untag the gender labels? 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐯𝐬. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭: Challenge past thoughts, connotations and concepts  𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐯𝐬. 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: Two- way- conversations vs. one-way labelling/ assuming 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐯𝐬. 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: What you see/ assume is just a faction of the vast possibilities/ interpretations. There is more to see! When I tell people that I’m a “Clinical Consultant”, I’m usually met with some quizzical looks. After all, does anyone really understand what “consultants” do all day? 🤔 Most people think of #consultants as business people in suits who fly around the country, attending high-powered meetings with executives and collecting lucrative paychecks. Clearly, that ain’t me. I’m not an MBA. I don’t speak fluent Legalese. I can’t interpret a financial prospectus.
