Get outside your four walls. This was my goal as the leader of a brick-and-mortar business confined to a physical location.  When we take the time to step out onto the sidewalk, a whole new world opens up to us. You might be able to ✔ Meet new neighbors ✔ Interact with businesses that are different from yours ✔ Broaden your perspective on the world and your ability to make change My business has grown for 22 years by living this concept.  Try these steps you can take every day to grow: ☑ Join local business or trade associations ☑ Get involved in Chambers of Commerce other than the one that might seem obvious to you (we joined the DC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, for example) ☑ Go to trade shows – and choose some outside of your field to see what else is happening in the business world. NJ Chamber officials said the return of the Walk to Washington, Feb 6-7 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, is drawing a lot of interest as it returns from a five-year hiatus. The 84th version of the iconic event – where participants take a charter train to the nation's capital followed by more networking in DC – is on pace to draw more than 900. Are you a member of a Chamber of Commerce? Or are you like many business owners who don't really know what they are and why they should join? Quite simply, Business Chambers are not for profit groups who offer a service to business owners that is local, informative, and helpful. There are a wide range of different benefits & types of assistance they can provide, depending on your choice of membership level and what your local Chamber offers. Average membership fees are usually around $150-$300p.a. which given the plethora of reasons why businesses join , it's almost a no-brainer. Let me elaborate on the top 5 reasons: 1. Most business owners who are members of a Chamber of Commerce gain a sense of belonging, expand their network of peers and enjoy connecting with like-minded business people at regular get-togethers. 2. Other businesses take advantage of exclusive training opportunities or appreciate hearing about helpful workshops, grants or government initiatives. 3. The occasional business needs a credible and well-connected group to advocate to Government on their behalf or on behalf of their industry. 4. Established businesses are members because they want to demonstrate their commitment to the town in which they operate, and are proud to support the team that works tirelessly to support local industry.... and 5. Some are just in it for the free drinks & latest intel. If you're in business, you should be a member of your local Chamber of Commerce.
