🍁 October 1 is celebrated worldwide as the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. According to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, there are about 9 million elderly people in Ukraine, which is one in five city residents and one in three from rural areas. Among them are about 3 million persons with disabilities, and their number is constantly growing. In war time the vulnerable populations of people 60+ also increases. ✅ The experience and unique expertise of Карітас України can become a good base for the implementation of the State Policy Strategy for Healthy and Active Longevity of the Population, which is being worked on by the Government of Ukraine together with international and public organizations. During the first half of 2024, Карітас України, within the scope of the Home Care Program, cared for more than 1,700 beneficiaries — elderly people, women and men with disabilities, seriously ill and lonely veterans who need outside assistance. #CaritasUkraine #OlderPersons #HomeCare #Healthy #Population

In Africa, over 80 million people live with disabilities, and many are trapped in poverty. The lack of healthcare, education, and job opportunities creates a cycle where poverty and disability feed into each other. Without access to proper medical care, many preventable disabilities occur, making life even harder for those already struggling. To transform this, Africa needs better healthcare, disability-friendly schools, and job training programs. Disabilities support policies also need to be created. This would give them a fair chance to live healthier and more independent lives.
