Independence, to me, is the freedom to fully express one’s authentic self without being constrained by external forces—be it people, circumstances, or societal expectations. It makes me reflect: Am I truly independent? Do we all share the same understanding of independence? Would the sense of independence 62 years ago be the same as what we experience today? And what will it mean 50 years from now? Is independence one of the most significant goals we should pursue? What happens if we fall short of society’s ideal version of independence? Is Uganda truly independent, or is the concept more complex than we acknowledge? Is independence a fate we are destined for, or something we must relentlessly strive to achieve? Wishing Uganda a joyful day of reflection and pride from Adroit Solutions Limited (Uganda) 🇺🇬 #uganda@62 #independence #independencedayuganda #ugandaindependence

British colonialism and independence. In the 20th century, the Iteso people shifted from a pastoral lifestyle to farming. Many Iteso men also traveled to work in British territories overseas. In 1902, part of eastern Uganda was transferred to Kenya, splitting the Iteso, but their cultures remained similar. However, the economic paths of the Ugandan and Kenyan Iteso diverged. Ugandan Iteso were wealthier at independence, but faced political instability and cattle raids, leading to poverty. Kenyan Iteso, though less wealthy at first, benefited from a more stable political environment and developed infrastructure. Under Obote, many Ugandan Iteso held army and government positions, but when Museveni came to power, many were dismissed, leading to the Teso insurgency in the late 1980s. The conflict ended in 1992, but the Teso region remains one of the poorest in Uganda, with many feeling neglected by the government. #tribe56 #heritage #culture

*Nigeria at 64: A Call to Personal Responsibility* As Nigeria celebrates 64 years of independence, I'm compelled to reflect on our nation's current state. Amidst challenges like economic uncertainty, corruption, inequality, and insecurity, it's easy to point fingers at the government. But today, I want to challenge us to look inward. The truth is, many of our national problems start from individual actions and attitudes. In our daily lives, we often: ▪️Intimidate and deprive others of their rights ▪️Prioritize self-interest over collective growth ▪️Perpetuate tribal and social divisions Instead of blaming others, let's ask ourselves: What am I doing in my space to make a difference? Can I: ▪️Treat those around me with kindness respect and empathy? ▪️Help others without expecting anything in return? ▪️Solve small problems in my community, regardless of tribal or social differences? Nigeria needs forgiveness, love, and collective effort to progress. Let's take responsibility for our actions and contribute positivity wherever we are. Whether you're home or abroad, remember: ▪️Do the right thing, regardless of position or level ▪️Pray for our nation's healing, even though many have given up on this 🤷 ▪️Make your space a safe and inclusive environment Let's celebrate Nigeria's 64th independence by committing to personal change. *Remember: Every small action counts and every choice matters!* #NigeriaAt64 #IndependenceDay #PersonalResponsibility #CollectiveEffort #MakeADifference #ForgivenessAndLove #HealNigeria #GodBlessNigeria #OneNigeria

White and Black Economic Empowerment Namibia has gone through various political changes over the past two centuries. One thing however is always constant. Once the political change occurs, there is a realisation that political independence means very little without economic ownership change. When the English ruled over Southern Africa they had the economic might. The Afrikaner took over and had to create state institutions such as the “Eerste Nasionale Ontwikkelings Korporasie” (ENOK or First National Development Corporation) to allow Afrikaner businessmen to get a share of the economic pie. The also created other institutions that should be supported by their people to become as powerful as the English ones, for example banks and insurance companies (Sanlam, Santam, etc.). https://lnkd.in/dsVAt5Pc

Nigeria's Independence: A Journey to Freedom On October 1, 1960, Nigeria gained its independence from British colonial rule, marking a historic turning point for the nation. After decades of colonial dominance, Nigerians proudly stood as a free and sovereign people, ready to chart their own course. This momentous day was the result of years of struggle, negotiations, and the unwavering determination of nationalist leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Ahmadu Bello, who championed the cause of independence. Their collective efforts united diverse ethnic groups, fostering a spirit of nationalism that transcended regional divides. Nigeria's independence ushered in an era of self-governance, hope, and the promise of a brighter future. It symbolized the triumph of resilience, unity, and the indomitable spirit of its people. As we commemorate this day, we honor the sacrifices of our heroes past and reflect on the ongoing journey toward building a prosperous and unified Nigeria for generations to come. Happy Independence! #gratitude #creatingthelifeofyourdreams #cedarsprimeproperties #nigeria #nigeriaindependence #October1st

RUNNING AROUND NAKED? 😮 WHAT IS TRUE INDEPENDENCE? When we recently told our under-10 year old children that there is more freedom in Uganda than in some of the countries they dreamt of relocating to, they asked: "How can you say we are free when we cannot really go where we want, wake up when we want...." the rabbit hole ensued. Citing the impact of various systems on their daily lives, they raised valid concerns about the limitations they face, even in a supposedly independent country. Looking back at my childhood days, I could relate. Independence is a complex concept. It's not running around naked- although some people find this liberating! There are benefits that come with it- like your rights, your identity, choices, your culture, etc. But it's not the absence of restrictions either, but also about the responsibilities that come with it, like adhering to the law, paying taxes, building a society, etc. It's navigating life within certain parameters. As we celebrate Uganda's Independence Day, let's go beyond the surface of personal liberties and delve into the deeper meaning of our national identity. By mulling over the significance of our flag, emblem, and the sacrifices of our forefathers, we can have greater appreciation for our freedom and the collective responsibility that comes with preservation of our rich heritage. This is definitely on my discussion list with our children today! HAPPY INDEPENDENCE UGANDA! #62 #happyindependence #Ugandanindependence #independenceday #freedom
