Heya! What do you think about my most recent personal project? 🐂 This short video shows how I made a book cover for The House of Asterion. Before you say anything, I know it’s just a short story, but I wanted to design an entire book cover because it’s one of my favourite pieces of literature. Ever! Just like The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse and Vladimir Nabokov’s Invitation to a Beheading. I can’t believe it took Borges just two days to write it… 🐂 By the way, there is a reason why I chose to use inverse perspective. With this type of perspective, the lines do not converge on the horizon *inside* the painting, but instead they converge on the viewer, creating the illusion that the painting is looking at them and not the other way around. The viewer themselves becomes part of the painting. It’s alleged that this is the reason why inverse perspective was frequently used in Christian icons. ☝🏻 Some scholars, however, claim it was most likely caused by a simple lack of concern with normal perspective, but I digress. 🐂 But in my case, the focal point of the drawing is the Minotaur, and all the lines converge on him, emphasising his profound loneliness. He is the only inhabitant of his cold universe, waiting for someone to fill the empty space. 🐂 I find this story one of the most relatable out of all Borges’ work. Writing is similar to painting. It gives a subjective experience. Every person sees it differently and picks something unique. There lies the beauty of a painting not having one single meaning. More mysterious the painting, the more people like it. Take Mona Lisa. 👉 Who drew it? 👉 Is it Da Vinci himself? 👉 Why is she smiling? Then someone stole it. Da Vinci was a mystery himself, the first polymath. Then Dan Brown's book “The Da Vinci Code” added more fuel to it. Similarly every reader takes something different from a book. Or take something new everytime he rereads the book. That’s what makes a book great. What great books did you read multiple times?
