I had an enlightening morning at the Roscommon Business Group today, where I heard an expert discuss the 'HiPPO' effect. Have you heard of it? 'HiPPO' stands for "Highest Paid Person's Opinion." It's when individuals hesitate to share their ideas after the 'HiPPO' has spoken, out of fear of disapproval. This resonated with me from my past experiences as an employee. I saw a great post earlier on money not being a primary motivator for most people. "Just because too little money can irritate and demotivate does not mean that more money will bring about increased satisfaction, much less increased motivation. It is plausible to assume that if someone’s take-home pay was cut in half, his or her morale would suffer enough to undermine performance. But it doesn’t necessarily follow that doubling that person’s pay would result in better work."
