God Morning my Brothers and Sisters…here is hoping your week has been both good and great. This weekend, plan to spend it outdoors, spring has definitely sprung. Rain or shine, get outside, it so good for the soul.   This week, something amazing happened, I was honored to be invited to appear on a friends podcast about tips on launching and growing a business, on how to reach out and prospect for clients, basics on sales and leadership stuff. Now, something clicked while I was being interviewed. As we dove into what it takes to succeed in business, like business planning, time management and investing time, reaching out, getting to know, like and trusting people, being transparent, vulnerable yet caring for others, it dawned on me that we were really talking about the core values of life and friendship. Both life and business are about investing in and caring for people, creating value through genuine connections and mutual support.   See, the conversation was flowing so naturally, as if there were no cameras nor microphones nor the studio nor producer present, and then it hit me, I was just having a chat with one of the mighty men in my life, who happens to be one of my best friends. We have been living these principles out in each other's lives. We have had many conversations, surface and deep ones for years. We’ve supported each other through everything—pre-marriage, post-marriage, raising kids, and now as empty nesters. Although we’ve talked about these topics privately countless times, this was our first time recording it and sharing with the public. What a gift to be able to share life. See Eric and I met at work, but quickly invested time in our friendship, started a couples bible study together and never looked back. What we were talking about in this podcast was our journey. WOW!!   I’m incredibly grateful for having been part of various small groups over the last 30+ years, where supporting each other and growing together is part of the journey. The value of these friendships has been more precious than any financial gains. Being part of small groups, men's and couples, has grounded me, and for that, I'm forever thankful to everyone who’s walked this path with me…and there have been plenty. This really led me to think about our Friday Fly-by for today and it is from Ecclesiates 4:9-12 and it says "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.   I want to encourage everyone to invest in building meaningful relationships. The return is immeasurable.   I hope this has encouraged you today. Thank you all for being such an essential part of my life. I was an active Afrodancer back in 2020. One thing that stood out for me from my journey as a dancer is the power of setting SMART goals. This approach made my dedication extreme and my progress measurable. WHAT ARE SMART GOALS? SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. They help you stay focused, track your progress, and achieve your objectives efficiently. - Specific: Clearly define what you want to accomplish. - Measurable: Determine how you will measure your success. - Achievable: Set realistic goals that you can achieve. - Relevant: Ensure your goals are aligned with your broader objectives. - Time-bound: Set a deadline to achieve your goals. As we step into 2024, apply the SMART goal framework to your endeavors and see the transformation it brings. What goals are you setting for yourself this year? 🌟 Reflecting on Juneteenth and New Beginnings 🌟 Yesterday was Juneteenth, a day of profound liberation and reflection. To celebrate, I decided to embark on a new adventure: learning how to golf 🏌🏾♀️ ! 🎉 Decked out in my vibrant and stylish golf attire, and with my natural hair in its full glory, I embraced this new challenge. Juneteenth reminds me to fervently pursue the promise for liberation - the freedom to show up as our true selves in spaces that once excluded us. It's about choosing ourselves, whether it's convenient or not. This theme resonates deeply with a personal milestone in my life: stepping down as CEO. It was a journey of self-liberation, filled with lessons and growth. In my blog post, I delve into this journey of choosing myself, the challenges, the triumphs, and the continuous path towards true liberation. While we still have a long way to go to fully realize liberation in society, I believe that if we can't activate it within ourselves, it will be difficult to embrace it when the world finally lives up to the promise--freedom for all.
