Let's take a moment to focus on a critical aspect of choosing the right counterflow heat exchanger: Tightness. The better the seal of a heat exchanger, the less air will mix between the branches - which means less contamination of the fresh air by exhaust air. High tightness also optimises fan input and ensures accurate efficiencies and pressure drops. Tightness isn't just a detail; it's essential for maintaining air quality and system performance.

Please explain to your staff the sugnificance of cleaning exhalation diaphragms on their RPE (negative pressure). Any atmospheric particulate can accumulate on the diaphragm / housing which can prevent the valve from sealing; thus allowing unfiltered air to enter the breating zone. Depending on the ammont of contaminant present, this may need to be done daily or even part way through a shif in extreme circumstances. Some manufacturers make the diaphragms very easy to access, whereas others can be more of a chore. This is a common failing so its certainly worth spreading the word throughout your workforce as part of user training... it's fair to say the the below pic is far from a severe example!

Pop quiz! Haven’t played in control panels in a while, so had a fun little troubleshooting day. An little stack of overloads and contactors, each feeding a 1hp oil pump. The middle block is solely a contactor, lower is a relay overload. Relay was continually tripping. Feed power 480 3ph. Motor FLA 1.2amp. Leg 1 reads 270v to ground, 1.1 amps. Leg 2 reads 270v to ground, 1.05 amps. Leg 3 reads 137v to ground, unstable current. Your only tools are basic hand tools and basic DMM with amp leads. What next?
