📣 NEW PAPER ALERT 📣 - Advancing inclusive innovation policy in the UK's second-tier city-regions available open access online now at Review of Regional Research https://lnkd.in/e2_76svu In this paper, Rick Delbridge Elvira Uyarra David Waite Rob Huggins, Kevin Morgan and I explore lessons on inclusive innovation policy through city-region approaches in Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester. 🔦 Drawing on interview data with key stakeholders across the three city-regions, the illustrative case commentaries present a picture of early policy experimentation. We explore how actors on the ground are working to shift negative perceptions and develop narratives that engage stakeholders in a shared commitment and purpose towards inclusive innovation. 👉 We argue that policymakers in the three city-regions are negotiating two tensions: one, the vertical tensions imposed by national (UK and devolved nation) strategies and funding requirements; and two, the horizontal tensions presented by a differentiated city-region context (in terms of outcomes and politics due to the interaction of multiple local authorities within this context). 💡 The paper contributes to the nascent inclusive innovation literature by examining policymaking and leadership approaches to inclusive innovation, questioning what it means, and who it should and does involve—in the three cases of Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester.
