🏡 Exciting Progress on Oakville’s #KerrSt Assisted Housing Project! Through effective funding partnerships, we’re accelerating the development of affordable and supportive housing options in #HaltonON. The need for affordable market housing is reaching a critical point, with more and more Ontarians finding it out of reach. This is increasing the demand for rentals and housing assistance and underscores the urgency of our housing initiatives. Our #KerrSt Assisted Housing project is well underway and just one example of how we are delivering more assisted rental housing opportunities. Over the last 10 years we've created 1,181 new assisted rental units. We also have five projects in progress that will provide an additional 115 units, another 246 units that we recently acquired and 505 units that are investment & shovel-ready. Working alongside partners, we’re able to build #MoreHomesFaster to support our growing community. 📄 Read more about our housing portfolio and progress here: https://ow.ly/Q8EP50TYjaT 🛠️To learn more about some of our major assisted housing development and infrastructure projects, visit https://ow.ly/el8R50TYjaS. #AffordableHousing #CommunityDevelopment #HousingForAll #Halton

Someone in the comments stated the Villa at Titusville is already beginning to show signs of decay and destruction. Birmingham Housing Authority just like City of Birmingham provides housing for the least likely to excel beyond government dependency to becoming productive and sustainable citizens. Both BHA and the City of Birmingham the two entities support young women with dependent children instead of citizens who are working towards earning a higher education, entrepreneurs, and middle age to older people. The Birmingham Housing Authority and the City of Birmingham place the wrong type of people in new housing, and the citizens who take pride and care of their housing and homes are displaced and put on the back of waiting lists for housing and emergency rental assistance. Therefore, the new new communities built and in the blueprint phase will in five to ten years decay and begin to look like yesterday’s government housing projects. In retrospect, what do I know about housing, placement and displacement? https://lnkd.in/eFHnjPkc

We just broke ground on a new project in Grafton, ND. It's the first new housing there in 30 years. Right now, it's just 5 acres of cornfield. But soon, it'll be two 36-unit apartment buildings. Building in rural communities is tough. It's more expensive to build in rural communities... And you generally get lower rents. So a lot of these deals don't pencil. For a project like this to work, you need buy-in from a lot of different players. In tomorrow's newsletter, I'm breaking down: -> How we got the first housing project in 30 yeas started in this community -> The different agreements, concessions, and efforts needed to suport a project like this -> How we developed the project at $15.3M despite it only appraising for $10M Join 4,500 people reading my Saturday newsletter for free here: https://lnkd.in/gjmEPmYv

Why has Bellingham only grown slightly more than the city of Nooksack in the last 10 years? A low-growth mindset and limited supply. There is not enough of the housing supply that people want and can afford, so people have moved to the surrounding cities to purchase more affordable housing. Recently Lynden’s Mayor, Scott Korthuis, presented the data to Bellingham residents in an effort to educate and advocate for the city of Bellingham to step up and take more of its share of growth as we prepare the 2045 Comprehensive Plan. The data is simple and it supports what Housing for Bellingham has been saying for a few years– Bellingham’s lack of growth has pushed growth into the surrounding cities and into unincorporated areas causing sprawl. Sprawl will continue impacting Whatcom County’s environment, until Bellingham addresses the barriers (lack of buildable land, infrastructure, and streamlined permitting) that are preventing growth and housing development. But, environmental impacts aren’t the only issue, Bellingham is dealing with a number of social and economic problems caused by lack of housing affordability, including a rising homeless crisis... As the economic and cultural hub of Whatcom County, Bellingham has a responsibility to assume a larger portion of the projected upcoming 20-year growth. Certainly we should be growing at a much faster rate than Nooksack, we should be preparing to accommodate more growth than Ferndale over the next 20 years. . . . #housingaffordability #affordablehousing #housingdevelopment #housingcrisis #housingsolutions #housingforbellingham #bellinghamwa #whatcomcounty
