Sometimes Improvement types are crap at seeing 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚, though we like to believe that we're somehow better than others. Ask me where I can improve, I have a list of dozens of competency gaps! Ask me where I'm excelling, I fall rather quiet. Today, I challenge myself to be less quiet... One day, CEOs of large manufacturing companies will both 𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 call me to respectfully challenge their thinking, to rehumanize their organizations. Why? Because, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐄𝐎𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬. Because I ask questions that require courage. And 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐄𝐎𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬. *CEOs*, who sees you as a whole human, creates a safe space to be deeply challenged, and walks with you (albeit over hot coals) to rehumanize work, to improve work by respecting humanity (starting with yourself)?! Oh, and to *Improvement types* - we're not great at seeing reality, we're great at seeing gaps - level it out, for your sake and for those who you serve. For today, "seeing reality" looks like sharing this shoutout from one of my favorite authors, status quo challengers, and real Lean proponents, Bob Emiliani. Thank you. Some of the younger generation are doing a good job challenging the conventional Lean wisdom of the prior generation and rehumanizing business. These are a few of the Gen X/Y people I follow on LinkedIn whose work I find interesting. #lean #leanhealthcare #leanmanufacturing #leanleadership #leanthinking #leantransformation #CEO #management #leadership #business #leanmanagement #respectforpeople #leansixsigma #kaizen #tps #leanconstruction #agile #Toyota #TPS #leaders #classicalmanagement #change #reallean #fakelean #leadershipdevelopment #innovation Bruno Vasquez Kathryn Belcher Andrew Jallah Jr Matt Elson Laura Gerrits

Bob Emiliani. Just to better understand, can you please elaborate on What do you mean by "the conventional Lean wisdom of the prior generation"? What does the Gen X/Y people DO differently that the prior Lean generation don't to implement Lean right in sustainable manner rehumanizing business? Thank you for sharing
CEO’s can be truly human. I know one example named Alex Taylor of Orb Aerospace, Lowell, MI. He claims he is the janitor too, go figure. Will be volunteering for him soon. Bob is truly my favorite troublemaker status quo challenger for sure! 👍
Hi Kathryn. You're welcome. And thanks for the shout-out. I'm happy my work has been helpful to you!

8moIn the place of "improvement types", you could just as easily have said, "humans." And just for the record, we all do not think we are excellent at this, but for sure 95% of us are better than average.
